"Generalissimo Franco is still dead" Am I back in college watching SNL?

I remember howling at that line!

Those were less “interesting” times. I wish I was back in university that’s for sure.

They were "interesting" times, but I yearn for the naiveté we had. When we thought Nixon was the worst President the USA would ever have to endure.

That’s a little before my time. But I completely agree about yearning for the lost naïveté.

Nixon resigned a month before I started my senior year of high school. It was one of those events that you remember where you were and what you were doing when it happened. Like JFK, OKC, Columbine, and 9/11. I remember them all.

Definitely. I still remember the absolute, eerie silence of walking down Bay St and riding the commuter train home on 9/11. My building was evacuated and no one knew what was going on and everyone was scared. We just knew we had to get the hell out of downtown.

My story is more mundane, but indicative of my life at the time. I had been at a therapy appt., contemplating my navel, and didn't listen to the radio in the car. Got home at 10:15am and mom was calling me - "turn on the TV" Worst part was picking my 9-yr-old up from school that day.

It was a terrible day. I hope we never have to live through anything like that again.

I do, too. But unless we can make major changes in this country and our leadership, it's only a matter of time.
