Based on the "jokes" I read just in that short article I bet there is a deep well of offensive social media posts/links to his act. Given that Lorne was slow to discover the dreck that Tillis was honing, someone has to be acting as an early warning system. SNL can't afford another shitshow.
I have no faith that Lorne and SNL didn't know all about Gillis. I just think he/they thought they could get away with it.
Definitely possible. If they did I hope they consider that it was at least a small burn. Obviously, they didn't completely regret it because they had his lame ass host (twice?) where he proved he was manifestly unfit for the gig. He is not a sketch player.
