It wasn't up to Biden to prosecute Trump, it was the doj. The president doesn't control the DOJ so while I agree Trump should have been protected earlier, it's Merrick Garland who is responsible for where we are. Also, the Supreme Maga Court gave him immunity.
The senior leadership of the DOJ serves at the pleasure of the President. He only doesn't control them if he doesn't wish to.

There's plenty of blame to go around. Biden could have asked Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel on day one to avoid the appearance that they were timing the investigation for political reasons.
