In my opinion it is Mitch McConnell's fault. Had he convicted in impeachment, everything else would be moot. He also allowed SCOTUS to become partisan trash. Garland didn't do any of it. He failed to prosecute Trump in a timely manner- but that didn't seem to be the start of this mess.
