Honestly this kid is one of the worst villains in cinema. Has no idea how much he hit the jackpot getting the Kusakabes as neighbors and instead he’s acting like this the whole movie. Grow up, idiot

Jesus Christ, the kid was just a disadvantaged farm boy in post-war Japan. Cut him some slack. He wasn't so bad, he just didn't know how to express his feelings for Satsuki. The only villain in the film was tuberculosis.
