I don’t do that, but I understand the need for connection because what if there are no other humans to confide in? And not to be dramatic, but what if you no longer have a solid network of good people to talk to. It’s hard man, but yeah I think IA is making people less smart.

AI as a substitute further isolates people from real connections. A journal is a better confidant because at least you can find human-designed prompts to explore your own feelings. There are so many ways to look for connections if you're lacking them. Avoidant isolation isn't one of them.

I agree and even though I can imagine different ways to make new connections, I would like to know some examples that you may have my friend

A nearby library, community centers, & city probably have some free or low-cost drop in events. Other local organizations probably have free social/support groups, some of which are online. Various Discord servers can be decent communities. Plus the right games can still have decent communities.

Local shops may have events, or their own Discord servers (like a local comic or game shop). Small or well curated fandom communities or any other interest groups can be a good place to meet people. Even sitting directly outside can help you meet your neighbors.

Volunteering for something can good. Which can also be in person or remote. Letter writing projects especially. Finding a wiki project to contribute to even a little. Art class or knitting circle. Human socialization is so important that there's SOMETHING around to help outcasts connect.

I say this as a disabled hermit with limited community who ends up doing most of my socialization with other disabled hermits. The hardest part is just convincing yourself to do it and keep trying because it's scary. But it gets easier.

It’s not actual connection. It’s the illusion of connection. Loneliness sucks. But the fact that the BEST argument to be made for AI is basically “it preys on people who don’t have a choice and lets them indulge in delusions” is evidence that it shouldn’t exist
