Lincoln was assassinated before he was able to bring a closure to the Civil War. People forget that Lincoln's Vice President was a SOUTHERNER, chosen to try to bring the country together, but a weak man, susceptible to bribes and pressure. He was the man who allowed the Reconstruction to die.
