Interesting from @ghostgoal.bsky.social. Gyokeres has had significantly less space than any other player in the PL so far. Hopefully Ekitike having a little more pays off www.skysports.com/football/new...

In the NFL when a wide receiver fails to get separation it’s usually considered his fault…

Arsenal’s biggest problem last year was chance creation more than finishing. Arteta plays such a conservative style - as evidenced yesterday - that there aren’t enough attacking threats for defenders to worry about. Thus the lone striker gets more attention from CBs

Yes it's weird how signing a number nine was going to be the answer for a team that didn't create enough. He might get some chances that wouldn't have come along otherwise but it's a tall order to make a significant impact in that sense.

they signed Madueke and Eze aswell, but this doesn‘t fit the agenda

Yeah, both good signings. Let’s see if Arteta will commit to attack, though. Starting with almost all their creative players on the bench yesterday was telling

Ødegaard was injured, Eze only just arrived. The narrative is more important though

Much like MacAlister & Kerkez. But you’re right: it’s all about the narrative, the 3 points were incidental.

and neither of them were injured, MacAlister‘s partner gave nirth, that‘s why he didn‘t play against Newcastle

the 3 points were in fact pretty incidental, even Slot said so after the game

Also, if they believed signing a 9 was the answer, why didn’t they go for Isak? He was clearly the best 9 not at a “global top 10” club.

So Ekitike is better at finding space?

Looks that way. But then he's played against 10 men, twice at home, for a better team... ;-)

Poor movement or great defending?

Fair point, I guess we'll find out in due course. The transition from facing mostly sub-Championship standard teams in Portugal will take time too.

I don't think I've ever seen Virgil and Ibou be so physical with a striker before. And he just couldn't handle it.

feel he’s the only one that list that will truly stay on the last line for the whole game, he plays close to the shoulder of the defenders and tries to help disrupt defence by making runs in behind. The rest drop and get involved in build up. He has struggled, but perhaps harsh comparison?
