I’ve been wondering if ceding all platforms and unsubscribing from all mainstream media is really the answer. Are we just going to huddle in our echo chambers and surrender spaces that are just as much “ours” as theirs.

They come to those spaces for engagement as well. If they don't get engagement, they'll leave and go elsewhere. Starve the beast.

That works on a platform like Bluesky, where management doesn't have its thumb on the scales. It's not working on X, which is just a Nazi echo chamber at this point, and it's not going to work now on Meta's platforms, either.
