Besides serving as a refuge for the Islands small gryphon population... who used to be dragons... its a long story... they are basicly the result of a major arcane mishap that lead to the Tower

being abandoned and sealed as its last inhabitant, the Islands Archmage Relina, disappeared in it and basicly took half the Island with her, the res tjust remaining floating in place as if it was still there.
