My 16yo son's taste in comedy is completely impenetrable to me. Airplane!, Zoolander, The Naked Gun (2025): LOVED 'EM The Naked Gun (1988), Anchorman: writhed in discomfort before switching them off within five minutes of starting

Top secret, wet hit American summer, walk hard and Popstar should be home runs
Did he just not have a frame of reference for the "group of foreign villains in 1988" opening for NG88?
Me, too.
Tropic Thunder & Joe Dirt, gotta see what this boy is made of.
Could throw a DODGEBALL (2004) into the mix for another data point 🤔
I have the same opinions as your child.
How can you make any recommendations based on that? It's a coin toss! I'm defeated.
Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello, Monty Python? My 7 yr old loved Jim Carry but outgrew and loved/still loves The Marx Brothers and Monty Python. I just threw any and all comedy at him, heavy on but not exclusive to the ones I preferred. At its worst, we all have bad taste phases we grow out of.
I mean for god's sake. "If you liked Airplane!, you'll like The Naked Gun" and "If you liked Zoolander, you'll like Anchorman" are two of the safest recommendations a human being could possibly make, on the level of "If you liked The Godfather, you'll like The Godfather Part II." I'm beside myself.
I’m with your son, my grouchiest comedy take is that Anchorman sucks
Hot Rod I think is a good one to try in this general sphere
I mean…I guess let’s talk about why your kid is trying to gaslight you? 😜
wonder how napoleon dynamite would go over
he loved it! I'd try to steer him towards Hot Rod, which is like Napoleon Dynamite as directed by ZAZ, but at this stage what's the point
If he likes Napoleon Dynamite, suggesting Gentlemen Broncos!!
You didn’t accidentally turn on anchorman 2 did you? Cause then it’s totally understandable.
Haven't seen the new Naked Gun yet, but drilling into the vibe split, and the Zoolander / Anchorman split makes sense if you need our hero-fool to be sweet Zoolander is an innocent, Ron Burgundy very much is not
Plenty of adults like this too. It's called arrested development. 😂 Hopefully your son will grow out of it. Popular culture is pushed on us. So many posts of digital comic art that basically all look the same. Where are the people doing something original, instead of just being like everyone else?
All the above is preferable to him watching French new wave and video music box exclusively … I think?
Stopping watching/reading a movie/book/show within 5 minutes seems bad, my dude
