Many on the left are grasping for a moment over the cuffing of Sen. Padilla, but he resisted as security tried to remove him — so they cuffed him. He had no press credentials, wasn’t invited, and tried to disrupt Secretary Noem mid-speech. Their job was to protect her right to speak.

About what led to her security identifying him as a threat, I only have hearsay, but once that happened and they took action he should not have resisted. Doing so makes it look like he was angling for being cuffed, that this was a stunt, not serious oversight.

He's the ranking member on her Senate Subcommittee (she & Lewandowski BOTH know him); was accompanied by fed personnel into the presser; and after he had been thru building security. If the officers that cuffed him didn't know who he was, they were the only ones in the room that didn't.

Their attention was probably on the press — it was a press conference, after all. Plenty of people get through building security, and just walking in with a few others doesn’t give you the right to be there. It wasn’t a town hall; it was a press event

"and just walking in with a few others doesn’t give you the right to be there." Totally irrelevant as he DID VERY MUCH have, not just the right, but the responsibility to be there!

While the room was being used for the press conference, the default right to be there was overridden by the event’s security and organization. If he wanted to exercise oversight of Noem in that context, he’d have needed to ‘call ahead’ and arrange access

There’s no proof he had proper access to the press conference. From everything we’ve seen, he just wandered in like the rules didn’t apply to him.

Nope. There’s been a massive rush to judgement, but it wasn’t thuggery, it was a security team doing their job, standard operating procedure for *any* security team. Once a threat is identified they don’t pay attention to what the threat says until later, and he resisted so they cuffed him.

It is suppression, oppression, and aggression. Their actions were way out of measure to Padilla's behavior. Now he needs to press charges and they need to be fired and he is owed an apology.
