Ireland's first primary military radar system is set to be rolled out next year, according to Tánaiste and Minister for Defence Simon Harris.
“Experts say primary radar needs to be part of a complex air defence system, which includes a control centre with a round-the-clock operational team to monitor the radar, an aircraft communication system and interceptor jets to respond to suspicious aircraft”. Only one radar? Surely at least 3?
And a control centre to pull in the sensor data, fuse it in to an integrated air picture and trained people to manage it. Then if you detect and recognise a threat, a comms system to control any aircraft you may acquire and talk to your neighbours. Where are your trained people coming from?
Surely the Brits have this in occupied Ireland?
.....International drug smugglers also use aircraft 'cloaked' from radar detection..." Really ? Narco gangs have stealth transports ? Sounds more like the romulans.
I did scratch my head a bit at that one. I have seen press reports about cartels using submarines to avoid border patrols but nothing about ‘cloaked’ aircraft. 🤔
Hope turning it on isn’t subject to the “triple lock”.
Nope, we just get to watch what's going on. Not join in
Excellent! Would be great to be able to see incoming aircraft just before the new radar is blown to kingdom come.
