Why assume you have electricity? All emergency foodstuffs will have to be cold. And water bottled, but not from a fridge obviously.

What on the list requires electricity? I can do any of these with my camp stove.
Good for you having a camp stove. I read the article as telling people to make coffee, heat up food, all of which means access to electricity. Was I wrong?
Have you ever had a power outage? How did you make coffee/food?
Yes but thankfully not for long. If there was a sustained outage then I have tinned fish, fruit, crackers and bottled water. No coffee!
I’ve been through numerous power outages in several places I’ve lived - one was almost two weeks. Most of the neighborhood had camp or backpacking stoves, or grills, or boy scouts who can make an outdoor oven. Those who didn’t plan were generously assisted by those who did.
That sounds good. And you, like your neighbourhood sound prepared. Don't think many city dwellers in New York etc would be? Different mind set/way of living.
You can use fire to heat water and make coffee like our ancestors did before electricity.
You can indeed. But if I did that where I live in an English suburb our Fire Brigade would turn up!
Well, I don’t know what to tell you. But the way to do all that shit without electricity is to use fire so if it’s a matter of survival now, you know..
I was in the Girl Guides, so I'm fine with making a fire. Just have to choose the right spot. And that wouldn't be now. Everywhere is tinder dry so........ the Fire Brigade might turn up again!
This doesn't make up for your complacency against reporting the seriousness of electing a mad man.
EAT THE RICH
solve many problems at once!
... but that's how I live normally 😬
How about a little illustrated explainer on how to hold protests and do non-violent resistance?
Because FEMA won’t be there to help. Neither will Joel Olsteen or his type.
Are you anticipating some kind of disaster happening here?
Alternative disaster plan for the under-30s Breakfast: Postmates Lunch: Uber Eats Dinner: Doordash
especially if you’re in a blue state and your government refuses to help you.
Serious suggestion: if you decide you need to set yourself up to survive for days or weeks on what you have stored, & you have a friend or relative who is a member of the Latter Day Saints (Mormons), ask them how to do it.
I’ve noticed that ever since trump was elected that more people are stocking up on survival food and other supplies. Is it a bipartisan opinion that republicans are leading America into a life altering disaster?
You realize that in the event of a breakdown in societal order, your soft asses are going to be first in the fire, right?
You absolute arrogant assholes. Fascist rag that spreads violence and nazi opinions. Fucking losers
maybe we wouldn't be in this situation if Sulzberger and his lackies hadn't beshitted your newspaper and turned it into stenography for dictators, crooks and fucking racist creeps.
Mostly OK unless you’re allergic to peanut butter.
Day 4-5: eat David Brooks
Super looking forward to recreating my grandparents just post depression childhoods.
By disaster you mean a depression or the police state?
Now do month 2.
MAHA is not going to like this
you eatin' that cereal dry?
WIth
Disaster? Looks like a tough weekend. What about a week, month, year, and forever broken supply chains? Short term thinking is almost cute, but without long term recocognition of overshoot and climate collapse, it seems the NYT sells us all out with the sweet little larder drawing.
TIP on food storage: Organize food by expiration date so you are keeping it all - even canned food - as current as possible. IF items are coming up on expiration you can even donate some things to a local food shelf. Also, having a food dryer is pretty slick for fruit and veggies.
Hey fine & all, but…. #ReleaseTheEpsteinFiles
Why you all making instant coffee? If you can boil water for instant coffee, you can boil water for A pour over. My idea of emergency preparation is making sure I have a quality hand grinder.
A French press also works. Just need hot water and ground coffee.
“Instant coffee”… typically American 😅😂🤣
This is certainly a very normal takeaway one would have from this.
A camp stove percolator would also work and makes delicious coffee.
Lmao MRE??
Next week: How to preserve urine in mayonnaise jars
great, did he start ww3 after that meeting?
Trump is President. Disaster has already struck!
in what world is bread non-perishable
Hey, it's about being prepared for emergencies. The New York Times is sharing tips on building a pantry with nonperishable food and water, just in case disaster hits. Super practical advice for tough times.
