They’re not doing detective work to solve or prevent major crime. They’re setting up meaningless check points, raking leaves, pacing past Hermes and farm-to-table whathaveyous, and bothering black people on their own stoops.

Not that CBT, ICE, DEA, Secret Service, much less an Amazon warehouse worker or apprentice plumber moonlighting as National Guard, know how to investigate and clear a murder, assault or rape.
And the DC Metro police who do know how to do that stuff are supervising overpriced, underqualified landscapers.
This is nothing short of a siege on DC. Of course crime will be low in a police state. But that doesn't mean crime will disappear or that the police state itself will not be corrupted & commit crimes with impunity. youtu.be/Be6mp9vgM2w
Eat shit, NYT.
Now do impact on local businesses during the illegal occupation
Sure, crime falls when you intimate everyone to pretty much stop going to stores, restaurants, etc. Sure, crime falls when everyone doesn't feel safe - surrounded by armed Trumpsters.
SPOILER ALERT: IT CHANGED DC POLICING TO A FASCIST STATE AND NYT LOVES THAT IT DID SO AND WON'T SAY IT BECAUSE THEY WANT IT TO CONTINUE AND EXPAND. #BOYCOTTNYT
Crime was dropping before the fascist takeover of DC’s streets. They’re not helping fight crime, they are provoking and arresting people who are using their first amendment rights.
He's going to be very happy with the verdict after he wins his lawsuit. Blatantly illegal arrest.
I'm not sure if The New York Times is trying to tell us that a police state is the new silver bullet for crime, or if they're just trying to sell more Wordle subscriptions. Either way, I think it's safe to say that the real crime here is the decline of good journalism.
Once upon a time your newspaper mattered. Now it only matters for Wordle and theater reviews. Congrats on your role in the decline of America.
Right. I’m 1990s internet, consolidation and private equity, all rolled into one. Mea culpa. Thanks for keeping me remorseful and accountable for my decades of technological innovation and greed.
I find myself replying regularly to NYT posts reminding them (swearily) that they helped get Trump elected so any pearl clutching on their part is beyond obnoxious.
dems still dont get it. we the american ppl want law n order, safety. we r not safe, we dont feel safe in our st, subways, groceries, malls due to dems' soft on crimes/criminals first victims last-insanity. youtu.be/68Ub4DHkEYw
Time to boycott wordle im afraid
“Crime has fallen” oooookkk
Wait, two weeks ago, Bondi said "Crime ends today." But crime keeps happening. Sounds like you can't arrest your way out of crime.
you don't say
Car accidents were way during peak COVID.
Harder to do anything with a boot on your neck.
"Jaywalking down 89% since feds bring order to pedestrian lawlessness in DC!"
The problem is the national guard is a short term solution. The minute they leave DC, crime will go back up. Instead of spending millions for the national guard, they should have given it to the city to employ a dozen more police officers for long term. This is just a ridiculous temporary ploy.
@nytimes.com contextualize the numbers. Leaving 1,000 arrests by feds without comparison to what the real, trained police achieve in numbers makes this meaningless.
Crime was already falling before this started. Now that no one is going out to eat or drink, crime will predictably fall further.
I don’t know. Feels like Trump’s destruction of the DC job sector, with its associated massive & rising unemployment, will likely drive more crime long-term.
nss
Meanwhile, the real criminals are out there still breaking the laws
It was never about stopping crime
I'm curious if crime in neighboring communities went up? If I crimed I'd be criming where military wasn't.
Can someone remind me how Trump is getting around the Posse Comitatus Act? The explanation may simply be that they’re ignoring it. Maybe the military isn’t doing any of the actual arresting. I’m just asking because I haven’t heard any discussion on this incredibly obvious disconnect.
There's also very little crime in Pyongjang.
Businesses have fallen, tourism has fallen, citizens are bullied and abused. This isn’t a policing success story this is a story, this is a story about right-wing terrorism being forced on a US populace by the government, and how NY Times supports it.
This is rediculous.
I see what you did there
Release the Epstein files!!
95% of the cases will probably be thrown out
Times can't even get their commas right anymore 😢
Yet crime in the White House is out of control, along with treason, stupidity, greed, and sexually perversion. Not that all you dirty orcs give a shit as long as Trump pays attention.
It has nothing to do with crime you dolts.
Well, duh.
Steal the country
Fuck you, propagandists.
It’s a report showing that while crime dropped in D.C. with more federal agents on the streets, their focus has been on sweeping up people for small violations rather than tackling major crimes strategically.

The truth is plain to see.
Homo sovieticus.
I'll bet this cost a lot of money. It's horribly inefficient for the results.
Well, I think so too, you should be right!
