Being a writer with a bad memory means every "short break" from writing turns into a full reread of my own work. The upside? My first draft gets endless quality control. The downside? I've basically read my own book more times than anyone else ever will. #Booksky

How did you manage to steal my working method when I don't even know you?

Lolz. Proof reading is an important skill not always followed by authors. Even the most skilled editor cannot provide the exact intent of the author.

Im no great writer but I outline to avoid that issue. Tackle segment by segment, weave the storyline, then proofread. Im not trying to impress a false bravado just succinct recounting of prior and things to come.

Epilogue off A Real Time Detective Story c2016 2022 Sample filing from my circa 2023 tonka tough case vs homeland security (a reopened911 breach they'd rather bury in history. Sample poem from A Real Time Detective Story. They rage with racism whereas I whisper words of wisdom. Rip Texas kids

I feel that so much!!! But I’m sure you know, the more times you are syncing to your words the more it becomes real!

I feel ya, bro! I can't too long a break or else I don't remember what the hell is going on with my characters and they start doing their own random things! They love to stray from my outline - I must be vigilant!

be happy that you finished writing it tho. I've written in the past but never got published due to not ever getting anything to a finished state. Sad, I know. Maybe someday? But as they say, someday should be today, not someday.

For a long time, I’ve gone back to edit yesterday’s work before beginning on today’s, almost like I’m giving myself a running start.

Yes. If I did not have such a shitty memory (all my life, altho getting old doesn't help) I might not have ever become a writer.

The way I’ve had to rewrite my outline four times and reread my manuscript five times because I can’t remember what effed up 💩 I was planning. Not looking forward to the final continuity reread. 🙃

I'm the same 😂 If I let several months pass before continuing my work on a book, I'm like: "Oh, did I write this?" 🤣

my friend, that's not your memory. that's Tzeentch. the manuscript changes every time you look away. the plot twists, characters swap allegiances. your 'endless quality control' is a futile attempt to map a labyrinth that redesigns itself behind you. just as planned.

Having severe adhd and being a writer means taking a few or more "breaks" per page to get lost in another thought non related to what I'm writing. Thank God for meds. Gotta be your biggest fan anyway, might as well reread³ everything.

The other upside - getting those nifty moments of ‘oh, I did good there!’ when you get the reader experience because you’ve forgotten writing it.

Isn’t it amazing how everything you’ve written is the worst thing you’ve ever read and you have absolutely no idea how you churned out something so incomprehensible? Ugh.
