My husband swore he was allergic and he is but with my Maine Coons he is not. I said love cured him! Lol. But I believe it’s bc their hair is longer so the dander stays closer to skin. He goes to my brother’s house and he suffers, they do not have MCs.

If you get one young enough, you can develop an immunity to them. I am very allergic to other people's cats but with every cat that I've gotten as a kitten or young cat (a total of 5 over my lifetime), I've suffered no allergies.
