TTRPG friends: I'm sick. My nose is running, my head hurts, and my bones ache. Therefore today's prompt is: TTRPG creators, worldbuilders, novelists: what is a popular folk cure-all in your world? How did it get popular? Who invented it? Most importantly....does it work?

In the islands of the narabani archipelago if youre stuffed and crusty you are given a special tea made from fermented ginger and wasabi boiled in primordial water from the water plane (if youre on Mizu no Shima) and enriched with love. it forces everything out of your system good and bad

100 of mine made it to my Random Table for Deadly Diseases & Alarming Ailments here: blog.d4caltrops.com/2022/05/d100... I usually generate 1-4 and let the Players choose which one they'd like to pursue. As far as efficacy, I've left that up to the dice occasionally as well :)

Because one of the dimensions has Bob the space octopus in it (as in, an octopus that is space itself), there's a tea called 'Bobs Ooze'. It's really just sweet honey and rose tea, but is used for colds and sore throats. Gets it's name from the myth that Bob's mucus can heal anything.

the dwarves have "spice beer" - it's like a cross between a pumpkin pie, and hot sauce. it (supposedly) makes you too spicy for the illness! (it seems to work for the dwarves - some other races have more issue with the spice level than the illness! lol) dwarves LOVE spiced/spicy food in my game

I haven't even thought about food, let alone medicine in my world (you know the usual, I've got a story idea but no background details) But I'd say probably magic being a very successful cure all. As in my world its not too common but there usually would be a few magic folk in any town.

Well, if you want very specifically "prompts concerning the food in your world" you've absolutely followed the correct cosmic entity. When I'm not too sick to be hungry, smells and tastes are some of my favourite things to work into my worldbuilding. I find they help with immersion!

As just in general magic could be used for cures, as well as just some simple farming magic to help the crops grow better and as such feed more people. Nothing super fancy, but a simple "traditional" style of magic where the person helps out the town and passes it down their kin.

Though probably some areas, some form of alcohol would probably be the common cure all.

Also this all is making me think of the different parts of my main world. My main characters area (still need to figure out what the area is called) would have farmer magic, up north more shamanic magic for the cold and for warmth, and hunting.

Though where A'vir is from tends to be devoid of magic as they used to practice blood magic but either thought it made them unworthy of their tools/blades, or saw it as evil. Where A'vir eventually picked it up, later on, due to sometimes a reserve power is needed. (I have a fun short story there)
