Question on affordable housing. Staff mentions that while Middle Housing doesn't add any low income housing requirement, projects >5000 sq ft & density bonus projects will pay into affordable housing fund. Also mentions currently almost no middle income housing being built, this could help do it.

th speaker also in support. Has a kid. Talks about how neighbors are having to leave due to high housing costs and that middle housing could help more be able to stay in future

th speaker "we want more young families to live here", and part of how we do it is to have that density. Thanks Berkeley for taking this on, unlike Atherton or Hillsborough (two wealthy Silicon Valley suburbs)

th speaker is a Cal grad also in support. Talks about how Middle Housing builds quiet, beautiful homes, and also addresses the middle income level, such as teachers and other city staff, who make too much to live in low income affordable housing.

th speaker is a first time council meeting attendee, also in support of middle housing, including the 90 units/acre supplemental. Currently lives in a 2BR apartment Wants to stay in Berkeley but currently doesn't have a path to stay since they can't afford a single family house.
