As much as I wouldn't mind the other thing, him being alive but largely diabled is probably the better outcome at the moment in terms of making things difficult for everybody in the administration

Yeah, I won't be surprised if that's the case and things go on more or less unchanged, just with more managed public appearances, a la Reagan during his decline.
