Then WhereTF is Astrid season 5 !?!
It's coming. Remember they have a lag time they have to abide by before it airs outside of France.
I was NOT aware of a fixed lag, but was mostly joking. It’s my understanding that it’s expected in early 2026 … assuming any PBS stations are still standing.
PBS will still be standing. Reminder that the funding from the feds was small compared to the rest of the money they get.
They've wanted us to pay for it for 40 years.
I was among them
Yes but local stations are the ones who need help
I knew it.
Just got PBS passport and set up monthly donation.
Unfortunately, the new donations are less than 4% of what they were getting in grants
So, more support for the bothsides political reporting that did so much to get us into this mess in the first place. Great.
It would be so cool if a bunch of musicians did a Farm Aid style concert fundraiser for them.
Elmo meets Venmo.
Public radio and television have informed, enlightened, and entertained me for decades. I increased my monthly contributions to both. Anyone who can definitely should.
I upped our monthly contribution
NPR will survive for decades to come. Trump will not 🧌
That’s wonderful news, but in order for them to continue those donations need to be regular and steady
I know there are complaints about NPR doing some sane washing, but overall, they have tried to stay fair and old-style journalistic. I see their faults but doubled my monthly donation this week.
Shut the fuck up you pedo loving moron. Go protect your child fucker in chief and leave us be.
I don't give any cable company any money. I give what would be that payment to PBS. All it takes is a $15 antenna from Best Buy.
Plus you can get PBS for free over the Internet as well if you have a "TV stick" or "Smart TV."
They did not make some draconian deal to keep their funding and they can now be even more independent because of it.
Will NPR dump the MAGA framing of all issues now?
PBS should take in the Colbert Late Show in May of 26 .... with fed funding pulled how sweet would that be
How much of that money is going to the smaller stations in danger of shutting down?
It's simple enough to donate to your regional station(s). That's what I did.
My local area station is doing its own drive. I am sure they are not alone.
I’m sure all stations are. My hope is that the small, rural ones are able to get a good amount of support. Won’t replace all the money they need, but I hope they get enough to make a significant difference.
Admirable but I’m afraid they will say see don’t need fed support..
Which would be fine except when the dust settles donations will stop..
If you work at a company, talk to the CEO’s office to see if they will do a company-wide program matching employee donations to PBS & NPR stations. That would double your contribution. Give it a try, you might become a hero (heroine) at the company for suggesting it.
Too bad NPR is still wasting it pushing GOP bad faith talking points and asking Dems to respond as if truth is up for debate or just going "hmmm, interesting" when they let GOP lie on air
The CEO of PBS is paid over one million dollars a year I am not giving PBS one red cent
Cancel Amazon Prime and Paramount+ and use the money to donate to PBS and NPR.
This is it.👆
Awesome news!
“Charity is lib bullshit” will be a groyper talking point by the end of the summer.
Of the public, for the public... ❤️
just think what would happen if Trey and Matt decided PBS would be a good use of some of their profits from Paramount.
Melinda Gate could toss some in too 🤞
Good news! I hope it's sustainable.
Keep it up. They need more than one year.
I could not love this anymore! Fabulous.
I don’t watch it and I won’t have to pay for it. Works out great.
Great if you love uneducated children and adults.
This will only justify the cut. I'm not saying it is a bad thing to give money but it looks like to the MAGA GOP that it was the right decision.
Excellent. This is how it’s done people!
Unfortunately Trumps next move after defunding PBS, and numerous non profit stations is to get the Federal Communications Commission to take all their broadcast licenses away. Full authoritarianism is the goal. Don't doubt it, but don't stop fighting it!
bsky.app/profile/navy...
I sent them my Paramount monthly payment. Also canceled State Farm for being one of their advertisers
A perfect encapsulation of the Plutonic ideal form of Republican social policy. "Let the people donate to the public good". And in 6 months, when the donations dry up and stations close down, we'll get to see why ideal conservative governance is intrinsically flawed.
So far they've received $20m in pledges, out of the $1.5 billion that was cut. The cities will be fine. How many of us want to give to stations in backwards areas that won't fund their own, yet are deeply reliant on them? The same places we bail out bc they refuse to tax themselves adequately.
I urge you to listen to The Daily from July 11th called “Is Congress About To Kill This Local Radio Station?” about a rural station in Alaska that relies on its station for community news. Some places will never be able to fund their own radio, and I have no problem paying $1.62/year to help them.
To be honest, I'm searching for just such a station. I know there are places too poor to fund their own. I just prefer to send my money to a place that appreciates public radio and would pay for it if they possibly could than to a place that cheerfully elects goons who attack everything good. $1.62?
The $1.62 was what we all paid per year in taxes.
ah, I get it but it takes a lot more than an individual donation that size to keep one station going this is why I love socialism: we get so much more for our buck when we pool resources
That was my point by saying $1.62. We each paid less and got more, and gave more to people who wouldn’t have what I, living in a rich blue city will always have.
(Though I might be misremembering—it’s something around that)
I cancelled my CBS/paramount streaming app since I don’t like their bad decisions lately and I’m investing that amount into PBS adding it to the amount I have normally been sending them. Im very low income so I feel really proud to be investing in PBS who is so invested in “We the People!”
Yes! Vote with $$. I canceled Amazon Prime and the Washington Post. Donated that money to our local PBS station, NPR and our local classical music station. We don’t have a lot either but it felt so good to take from Bezos and give to nobler causes!
Trump is a malignancy, MAGA its tumors. Excise stat…
People need to stop donating to members of Congress in return.
That would only help if we were donating to the child fucking republicans, which we are not.
We may already be doing that inadvertently supporting companies & orgs that take our money and funnel it to those politicians
I’ve been boycotting any company that donates to republicans for 20 years. I’m exhausted.
The part that fucking pisses me off about this is that you're going to have fascists going "see? the government isn't needed." And you know this momentum of donations will die down eventually because people aren't going to have the fervor for it years down the line.
those donations are (currently, at the peak) $20 million vs the $550 million in grants they used to be getting
That's also ignoring how often NPR and PBS have just been capitulating to the nazis and treating them as if there's a fair and good faith debate going on rather than calling them for what they are.
My hope is that they won't feel the need to do that anymore.
The very fact that there are still people falling for the horseshit and they keep capitulating to the fascists despite how they fuck them over every time leads me to doubting that. All the people in charge are either complicit or live in a bubble.
they like doing that because that’s who they are
Their CEO's need to resign.
Also, *we are still paying taxes to the government*. That money is still there!! It’s not like we’ve redistributed those funds, we’re just out extra personal money *in addition* to the taxes paid!
Yeah, the executive branch is just illegally withholding funds that were already allocated. Astounding how that's even an option they can do and that people didn't realize how bad an idea that was. A government based entirely upon gentleman's agreements is so fucking stupid.
Look for Trump's FCC to suspend *certain* broadcast licenses as "sedatious"
PBS and NPR aren't under the FCC's control.
Broadcast licenses are, aren't they?
You're correct here.
Nice but probably not sustainable.
It most certainly is. In my area 5 percent of listeners donate, there is certainly room for growth and ebb and flow
foundation.pbs.org
So … with Mike Johnson shutting down Congress, do we get a reprieve on these funding cuts?
bsky.app/profile/real...
Remember that these cuts overwhelmingly affect local stations, so consider adopting a rural station to donate to!!
And that just proves the GOPs stance thatbthey don’t need Federal money
If you read the article, you'd see they've received $20m and the need is $535m. Rich blue cities have shortfalls of 5 - 8%. Rural areas have lost half their funding & don't have Mr or Ms moneybags hanging out ready to step up. It's untrue they don't need federal money. Esp when disasters hit.
Adopt a station. I’m thinking of giving to Marfa public radio. There are some rad stations in Mew Mexico also.
Great, now let's fund a real candidate.
Now I’m paying for something I used to get for free. Republicans say it’s a tax break?
Sure, it's great that people are donating, but they're also proving the Republicans right. Part of their case for eliminating funding is that private donations should support PBS. So is it a win or not?
Archived NOT article: archive.is/vc5ex 120,000 new donors signed up over the last 3 months resulting an an additional $20 million. However congress cut $550 million.
10 million American households of good faith and who believe in basic human decency could cancel Amazon Prime immediately, reallocate that as an annual donation to public media, and solve the budget hole completely. And stick it to Bezos.
Great! Let's see how eager all these donors are 5,10 or 20 years down the road. I'm guessing they'll fade away.
Unfortunately this will be used as evidence they don't need federal funding.
Federal funding was only part of their budget in the first place. The problem is that the small, rural stations relied on that money the most. It remains to be seen how much those stations will benefit from these donations.
Considering that Federal gov’t can extort institutions and a future republican POTUS can apply the same tactics, it will probably be great if some institutions didn’t rely on federal funding.
And the government gets exactly what it wants. Cut funding and forcing the American people to pay for programs that should already be paid for with the taxes they pay. But the billionaires get another yacht and another private island for their sex slaves
Good for NPR and PBS the convicted felon can’t bully and make criminals out of them.🤨
I’m happy to hear this. Not because of some incipient radical leftism—I actually download the music from several public radio stations and spend hours listening to it daily. Classical, jazz, and folk that you don’t hear on commercial radio. And I give them donations. They are vital to me personally.
I'm included in those totals. $8 bucks/month gets you both NPR and PBS!
Where?
help.pbs.org/support/solu...
I have PBS Passport for $5 a month.
The $3 bucks more gets you NPR podcasts.
weta.org/support/npr-... For the DC area.
This is the first I’ve seen the bundle. Thanks!
Good but it also makes the GOP’s point for them The anti-health insurance argument used to be “that’s what charity is for”
But the post subhed reads, “Donors are turning out to support local stations, but those contributions so far fall well short of the annual $550 million that Congress cut.” If they actually have “exploded” maybe ask the desk to rewrite that.
While this is gratifying, it will help those favoring cuts justify their actions.
Glad people have a brain and support this educational and cultural institution.
I'm a longtime donor, but if NPR or PBS tone down their coverage of Trump (like NYT and WaPO), I'll stop donating.
Got some bad news for you…
Npr has been trash for a very long time now. PBS is a major loss though. Extremely important television.
Donate to the station of a nearby purple or red district, as well as your own! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of... How to find a nearby NPR partner: www.npr.org/stations
🔉
Any donations to the Democratic Party or their candidates will also support this effort. If we don’t win the midterms by a considerable amount then we may never see the return to NPR, PBS or other public service broadcasting.
📌
Why? Because the American people are fundamentally decent people.
😏 Hope we can keep it up.
👏✌️
Well, let’s hope that hospitals in Red states do so well.
Cool maybe NPR can ambush random college students and let even more Republicans lie to their audiences with this new support!
Good! I love pbs npr
I canceled My Amazon Prime and Paramount accounts. I immediately called my local #PBS and told them to make it a recurring withdrawal. I couldn't live without my KEDT public station. Give what you can.
I wish they’d stood up for themselves and the country and built their ark before the rain.
NPR that is. PBS has been doing the right thing.
i mean this is ultimately a bad thing because donations aren't consistent like arts grants but republicans will be like "see federal funding isn't needed"
And also donations won’t be enough to save stations outside of metros.
Which is why upper middle class people need to donate to their local stations and also stations in red, rural states.
Yep cancelled Paramount and got a PBS passport
You have to watch the Spy in the Wild nature documentaries. They are amazing.
Never mind, looks like they are BBC property, but all episodes are here. archive.org/details/SpyI...
Glad to help.
Glad to hear. We love PBS in Canada!
but this is what the trumpists expected would happen.
I will not donate to a conservative org. Once they bowed down it was over.
PBS is not conservative. You clearly don't know anything about their programming.
Nice polite republicans. It can be both true that they have good programs and that their leadership has been essentially captured by the current admin.
Which is why the CEO's of PBS and NPR need to resign.
That’s great. But there’s no way it’s going to total a billion dollars.
