Ah thanks so much for reading mate!
It's really lovely to see so many conversations about it! I'm more of a Kendo Nagasaki guy, but it made me want to check out the AEW. So thank you 😊
I took a lot of persuading but finally caved in 2021 and haven’t missed an episode since. It’s still problematic in lots of ways (eg an employer profiting from people mortgaging their bodies) but they let the talent tell some great stories.
Thanks for sharing the article! No one is perfect, but I respect those who are trying. The Adam Page character, and the person behind it, clearly speak to me even though I'm not a millennial... Our Men's World Champion.
WWE has been more emboldened in their overt Trumpism but AEW is owned by a man of colour and 1st generation American, son of an Indian immigrant self made man. Vince just built on top of his father’s legacy. If Tony weren’t such a dolt he could be really sticking it to them.
In what way could Tony “stick it to them”?
Leaning into the Bischoff strategy of attack and go with the “WWE is the MAGA approved brand” 😂 it would be entertaining. I don’t care that much it was just an interesting article 🤷🏻♂️
Except WWE also has Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch wearing the colours of the Palestine flag on TV. While AEW's execs, the Jackson brothers are Obama 'birthers'. The owners billionaire daddy gave money to Trump. And don't ask Chris Jericho where his wife was on Jan 6th. So it's a bit more complicated.
What on earth makes you think the Jacksons are birthers?
I can't find those tweets. But here's something of a similar vein
When Brody King came out at Arena Mexico in an "ABOLISH ICE" shirt I stood up in my home and applauded.
Excellent read. Having been a wrestling fan for decades I'd gotten used to my fandom being at odds with my values. Thankfully that's a thing of the past.
