Gandalf always out here reminding everyone of two things: 1. The importance of a sidearm. Your primary weapon can get lost. Your backup can save your ass. 2. Swords were sidearms. The Romans were weirdos for using them as primary weapons. Normal people used ranged or hafted weapons as primaries.
