In Cub Scouts, some were told off after giving a high five as a sign of peace. That was a fun morning.

the first time I can remember attending a Catholic Mass after a life growing up Baptist, my then-girlfriend came *this* close to sticking her tongue in my mouth during the peace and then flicked holy water in my face on the way out the door I was highly confused
My first time inside a Catholic church was when my cousin got married and I was deeply, deeply confused and felt as out of place as a goldfish in the Sahara
Was it the lack of guitar or the funeral coded music or something else
...guitar? At church? And what is "funeral-coded music"?
Multiple guitars at the Spanish-language Mass. Also a lot of colors and flowers
I don't think y'all understand just how not a thing that is in the church of Christ. You can only clap if it's a Black or liberal congregation.
But you do have people selling popsicles after the service, right?
wut
Yeah I’m drawing a blank on that one too
guys with carts full of popsicles selling them after Mass in the front of the church. Especially popular during the summer
Frankly a lot of people who don't clap *shouldn't* clap. Learn, crackers, you've done it correctly in the past. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyiG...
My core memories of our local church was the music lady playing a 1970s electric organ that could only play minor keys without any tempo.
It's church, not a rock concert. Show me book, chapter and verse where Jesus had a rock band. It ain't in there.
He had long hair and a lot of crazy ideas, but you’re right. Judas had the better lead vocals.
(The church of Christ only practices non-instrumental music because there is no Biblical authority for the use of instruments in worship.)
pretty sure there's no biblical authority for the use of steel or plastic or drywall in church construction either or seersucker suits
Jon, I once sat in a 45-minute discussion over whether or not it was permissible for the church to put up a sign out by the road. The building of a fellowship hall by the congregation we used to attend before we moved to another one was a monumental occasion because They Didn't Do That
A nice linen suit like David Niven who says no
oh things were different in 1970s California Catholicism. I call to the stand @ms8.bsky.social to deliver the outraged lecture about the merits of the Glory and Praise songbook with acoustic accompaniment over current Catholic worship music
This man gets it. www.instagram.com/reel/DKUmO6J...
Dorm mass at Notre Dame we had a guy who was 100% Musical Theatre on piano. If he didn’t play his show tunes cover of Anthem, we would riot.
Ok but I’m so repressed Catholic I’d be carrying that crush to my grave.
the whole thing with the OD-on-the-last-week-of-birth-control-pills put an end to that, honestly
Oh wow things have taken a turn
this is the gal who cost me my career in academia and who also asked me to take her little sister to prom to show up the guy who was going to take her and then swerved her for another girl mistakes were made
