I think they're Lutheran but the number of conservative Catholics who are openly heretical in their challenging of the Pope on doctrinal issues is really too much not to be considered Protestant.

The act of “challenging” is not what Lutheranism (or Protestantism for that matter) is about. It is all about Grace and everyone’s direct access to God without intercession. And Martin Luther was a member of the Augustinian order, as well.
