(1) There aren't enough attorneys in the country to take care of all of us as we see our freedom of speech taken away. (2) Most people do not have enough money to hire an attorney.
That doesn't change that it's the correct course of action- it's much more expensive to end up in prison over putting your foot in your mouth and incriminating yourself
If everybody demands representation every time, they'll quickly run out of capacity waiting for enough court-appointed attorneys & they'll need to let the ones detained for harassment go to have room for the ones who might actually be dangerous.

Obviously, normal people shouldn't act like this, but I do think there is value in someone with a profile pushing the issue like this, same as it would have been useful to see a couple congresspeople get arrested for trying to walk into the treasury building a couple weeks back.
+1 High-profile arrests can raise awareness of the stakes and accelerate resistance. I hope more people with platforms and followings (esp. politicians) are willing to risk this for the greater good! That said, his specific choice not to shut the fuck up was foolish, and no one should mimic that.
I think it's tricky. If we ALL act like that, express our views with zero fear, we've got strength in numbers. The regime isn't at the phase where they can arrest ALL of us yet. The problem is, too many people are scared to do that, so any normal people who act like this would be picked off...

It might be good that he was arrested, but it is patently bad that he ran his mouth. He's got a lot of followers who will learn the wrong lesson from that, and they simply don't know any better and will needlessly suffer as a result. Hasan should know better, though.
