Just 10 members of Congress have even dared to call Israel's mass murder in Gaza a genocide. Meanwhile, they're straight up murdering journalists. The gulf between what's happening and what most of our leaders will acknowledge is so remarkably vast.

I personally don't use the word genocide as a descriptor, not because I don't believe it. rather the specific charges of starvation are more effective (mass starvation, atrocities, child murder) and don't elicit defensive response in the same way. But almost no one in Congress is doing this either

If we all do that, we’re abandoning a concept that was created for the defense of humanity. This seems a betrayal of the people who created it, the people who were’t saved, and it puts us into a moral abyss the idea was created to avoid. The conditions you describe are present in all genocides.

I think reaching ppl in your personal circles is the most important thing an individual can do. The reason I pointed this out isn't to downplay the treatment of Gazans (it's objectively evil and murderous) but to note that getting a message across to people you know can be achieved in multiple ways

But everyone I know has had to slowly re-think some things they believed because it is so incomprehensible. It can be a process. So they know, and they do not know, and can’t believe it. The amount of lies people have absorbed to this point is vast plus the unthinkable nature of the actions.

So that is why descendants of Holocaust survivors I know are not like this and were the first people to speak out since they were taught by their parents to observe when everyone seems to be lying, to not trust conformity but to fear for other people, and defend them even if there is a cost to you.

I think that’s more a guy who basing the opinions much more on his social sector than on anything about being Jewish. HIS crowd approves, so he flogs X beliefs. People in some social sectors—they just don’t care what’s true, they only care what they are allowed to think. That is how Biden was imo.

Yeah—only people we know who would object to term genocide are elderly. Now they do not. Most people I know who are descendants of survivors were the first to see it was genocide for a very long time…except for one very old person but now she sees. All we do is talk about the Holocaust and Gaza.

My question. I don’t get how they think. Some theories about it that aren’t just ‘AIPAC’ and so on. On face value, situation where a particular group has a cluster of beliefs required one hold to be a member…To be inside, one then learns not to question. Real leaders aren't afraid to stand up for justice and tell the truth. We almost have no real leaders in our government, especially in the two major parties. Some of us are so wedded to one party that we can't/won't call out our "team" when their actions are clearly in violation of our morals.
