You're not wrong. 1 in 6 peoole in the US is a narcissist because our society rewards the behavior.

a lot has happened since 2015.
From 1 in 100 to 1 in 6 in 10 yrs?????
not even defending 1 in 6. just not going to put much weight on a study that ignores the last 10 years...which have been pretty friggin' pivotal. 😅
It's still only 1-2%.
they’re famously self-aware, I hear 😏
Narcissism is rarely formally diagnosed because narcissists don't seek treatment. They believe they are the victims, not the problem. They don't seek treatment because they don't think there's anything wrong with them, just everyone else. Our screens society rewards the behavior more than ever.
Genuinely ty for bringing insight & facts, unlike the troll above. My comments stemmed from being tired of how much, in this age of BS inundation from the right, many ppl my politics would otherwise align w/ post misinfo for the snark (also grew up in an adhd fam where looking it up is law lol)
Current, not screens.
honestly "screens" works, too.
Sadly, it does. I did a research project for social psychology on the negative effects of social media and it's only gotten exponentially worse since then.
Exactly! I was married to a narcissist. I went to a psychologist for therapy, mainly due to my marriage & pregnant w/ our daughter at the time. My husband came twice to my sessions at my request & psychologist's recommendation. He refused to go back b/c she was pregnant & not married.
You should read this. Dr. Durvasula is an expert on narcissists. It's very informative. And helpful. And she has a YouTube channel.

NPD is a misleading diagnosis and most psychologists want the DSM amended because this only addresses malignant narcissism and there are many different types of narcissism. And narcissists don't seek treatment so it's rarely formally diagnosed. Which you wouldn't know outside the field.
Oh how I do know the latter - I'll be recommending the book you shared earlier with a loved one also dealing w/ a narcissist, thanks
Yes. That's what happens when we're all in a forced abusive relationship with a malignant narcissist. My degrees are in psychology and the data comes from narcissism expert Dr. Ramani Durvasula. There are different types of narcissists. Most people are only familiar with malignant narcissists.
Incels are vulnerable narcissists and the GOP and the Christofascists have created an entire generation of vulnerable narcissists. Boys who feel entitled to everything and when they don't get it they blame everyone else for their failures and lack of success. Most CEOs are narcissists.
Old article and specifically only mentions NPD which is a highly problematic diagnosis because it only accounts for malignant narcissism and it doesn't account for the lack of diagnosis b/c narcissists don't seek treatment and there are many different types of narcissists.
Labeling 1/3 of everyone narcissists isn't helpful either. Every human has a balance of narcissism and self-loathing in them, and you can find narcissistic traits in nearly everyone if you look hard enough (ask leading questions in a survey). NPD is important bc it indicates harm.
