That's not accurate. The entire line of succession would also have to be impeached AND convicted on an individual basis to remove them. Impeachment alone isn't enough to remove anyone from office. They must also be convicted in the Senate. We need better civics education, clearly. This is basic.

But all must be done on an individual basis. The impeachment and conviction of a president doesn't automatically impeach and convict the rest of the line of succession as the OP asserts. Ford wouldn't have been removed from office if the Senate had the opportunity to convict him. And they would have

But Nixon resigned first because he knew he'd be convicted in the Senate. And then Ford pardoned him. We have modern references for how the process works.
