The spaniah conquest had very little to do with religion. It served as an excuse, but Fray Bartolomé de las Casas was a loud voice against the spanish atrocitiea. Most colonization is due to resources, little to do with religion.
I took an entire history course on the Spanish Conquest. My professor was inducted into the Spanish Royal Order for his work in the subject. Convert or die was a huge part of the Spanish Conquest. www.stpetersburg.usf.edu/news/2021/us...
Cool. I'm latinoamerican, and I learned the history from highschool and a couple more umiversity courses and let me tell you, it wasn't really that important. The conversion to catholicism took centuries.
It didn't help that the spanish destroyed many places of worship, but many monastoc orders, like the jesuits, took a less violent approach to conversion.
You need to separate how politics use religions as tools for powdr vs a true religious fervour war.
Our Founders made the Separation of Church and State a foundational principle of our Constitution and government for good reason. There's a reason why no one's religious beliefs are allowed to inform our laws or government.
You should tell the Republicans that.
When religion is in any way involved it ceases to be strictly political.
