Truth.
Also brings to mind "My Vagina" from Mad Magazine www.tgfa.org/fiction/MyVa...
Men CAN! Oh, menstruate. I thought you said... never mind.
Eve was deceived. She wasn't bored she wanted something good to contribute goodness. Eve. is. Innocent.
Annnnnd— if it was all Eve’s fault, why do men have a big old Adam’s apple in their throat? Possibly because they lied about the incident the whole time, and the lie got stuck right there?!
There was no apple....
📌
Thanks for introducing me to this! I’ll check out the rest of her work now ♥️
Wait until you hear about what they did to Lilith, Adam's first wife.
Oh this is spot on!!!
📌
Yikes!
Wow. That nails it.
If men got periods they’d boast about how much blood they lost every month.
Makes me think of Pandora and Bluebeard’s wife as well.
Oh, everybody should be able to read this text; would you consider reposting with the poem text in the ALT field? I know it may feel like a chore, but people with accessibility limitations will thank you I’m making an effort to add alt text to every picture I post. I hope I will keep doing it 😅
A free home, free food with only 1 warning given in love is a prison? WOW. Eve was tricked and lied to, Adam chose in love but ignorance, to share in his wife's fate, damning us to this world.
Adam could have redeemed Eve if he'd have gently taken the apple from her and said, No, I won't eat of it too.
that’s kinda why I always look at the both of em with a side eye bc.. um Adam.. why didn’t you tell Eve no to eating the apple? why didn’t you take the apple out her hand, place it on the ground and went to go eat the other fruit from the trees God allowed y’all to eat from? why didn’t y’all say no?
I keep this cartoon (sorry, NSFW) bookmarked for any discussions of that topic. www.oglaf.com/strongly-dis...
Great poetry choice for your post.
I love it!
Um no they both ate the apple lmao
This is actually how we tell the story in Islam. It was a joint action - the first couple had no real gender divide, but both represented the essential human quality of questioning authority
Somewhat true view to be sure. Important to remember however, no apple ever mentioned in the scripture. Only forbidden fruit. Let's not forget, both made a choice, who went first is immaterial.
I actually pointed this out about how sexist the Christian religion is where they blamed a woman for sin and while a friend of mine was like "Holy shit you're right! They did blame a woman!" another friend of mine who was Christian (We're no longer friends for reasons) tried to defend it by saying
"Well no, the snake deceived eve and then sin was created." BASICALLY STILL PROVING MY POINT! She wasn't the brightest and also thought sexuality was a choice which is why I disliked her amongst other things.
Funny fact: Gloria Steinem was a CIA asset. Look into her own recollection of Ms. Magazine
Idk I kinda feel like Adam did eat the apple (hence them having an Adam’s apple) and they just blame the woman instead. Tale as old as time
Absolutely...this is what patriarchal "Christ"ianity has wrought for 2000+ years.
#Truth
What is with these people and their weird gender war? I'll never understand why some men and women go on a crusade against the opposite sex as if the people that wrong them represent all those like them. It makes no healing among broken people. Only makes more people annoyed.
Eve did humankind a favor by eating from the tree. Otherwise, we'd be as ignorant as we were in the Garden of Eden. To use a modern metaphor, the only way for humankind to launch was to move out of their dad's basement.
By Any Other Name
This also baffles me every time I think about it. How can wanting to be able to distinguish between good and evil ever be a bad thing? How is that not considered the core moment of taking responsibility for our lives? This is where my deep rooted suspicion against Christianity starts.
Also the Power, by Naomi Alderman. Another beautiful thought experiment switching things around
The funny thing is that the bible says god does not tempt humans. (James 1:13-15) But the whole story of "here's a special tree, try real hard to stay away from it" and not chasing away a deceitful snake sounds a LOT like temptation to me.
Great! Thanks for posting.
Well the story of Adam picking the apple would be quite similar to that of Prometheus stealing fire from the gods. Perhaps just a refection of greek civilization being that much more irreverent of the gods. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometh...
Sadly I need larger print😂
B'H: Who said it was an apple?
The Bible doesn't say Apple. It says fruit. Sorry, I'll see my way out. :)
Arguably, Adam here could be likened to Prometheus, and indeed he's written as a tragic hero to be celebrated.
Amen to this! 🙏
I'm ready to throw Eve and apple-inspired celebration. Who's eith me? 🍎🎉
How about quiting the club where that narrative was invented to keep women small and the poor in their place? How about stopping to believe what you were indoctrinated to believe as a child and how about not giving power to those who seek to oppress you? Free yourself from religion/mental slavery!
📌
I love this! Now I have two poems to add to my favourite poems list.
Revisionist mythmaking is a vital method for knowledge creation and intellectual sovereignty, especially right now.
My conspiracy theory is that it was Adam that picked the apple and once he realized what he did he pinned it all on Eve.
Mmm... That was nice. Just sayin'
I really like that.
If men got periods there would be mandatory sick days at least 2 days a month, free menstrual products and a national period day.
Wow !!! Love 💙
Had to be Eve. Only way the ski god could exert power over matrilineal culture that worshiped the female God.
Sing it, sister!
They want to blame the woman.. He is a whimp Who made the snake? If god made everything And Knows..
Brilliant, and painfully true.
Eve was FRAMED!!!
Isn’t that the truth?
Well, it's a fictional story written by old misogynistic men anyway, so it doesn't matter with "what ifs". Also, there was no devil in the story tempting Eve. People keep getting that wrong. It was just a talking serpent.
But it deceived her into eating it which was against what God said.
The serpent didn't deceive her, though. It told her the truth. It was actually God who lied to them.
What was the lie?
He lied by saying they would die if they ate the fruit, and didn't say anything else. The serpent said they wouldn't die and said that the fruit would give them knowledge. They didn't die, and they gained knowledge.
But that knowledge was death? They were in heaven already so if you did something to get something less wouldn't it somehow be worse than what you have?
Wrong, that knowledge was the knowledge of good and evil. You are making shit up now. There was no "death knowledge" involved.
But they died? In the end they learned that they aren't protected anymore since God sent them to earth. I may not be telling everything at the same time but it is supposed to be there.
They died after over 900 years. He never specified that. He made it seem like they would die on the spot. And he didn't say anything about them getting banished. Not specifying and being vague is deceptive, therefore a form of lying.
So God made them and then told her to do something which he didn't want them to do?
I didn't say that.
I am looking for this book

Love this.
So much Bible handwaving. 'Hey, that woman who just (CREATED) another LIVING being-- IGNORE HER...she ate an apple. Ick. So much ick. The man, who did not create a WHOLE OTHER BEING INSIDE HIS BODY, he's in charge. God creates. Women create. Man is an ingredient.
Thats one take "its all about Eve!" he lads, another one😁
Adam is fiction. The apple is fiction. All of it is fiction created by a patriarchy.
I still think Adam ate the apple and blamed it on Eve. It stuck in his throat - hence, men’s Adam’s Apple 🤷🏼♀️
Brilliant!
Excellent!👏👏👏👏👏
It’s sad that people think this is wise. There would be no celebration if Adam violated God’s rules. Adam knew Eve had done wrong but followed her out of love.
I have never come across this before. I love it
Thank you for sharing! Wow. 🙏🏻
And if it had been a real God, he would not next be asking “Where are you?" -- right out of the gate, this book confused me as a child. The plot inconsistencies are mind-numbing.
We just read this tonight in my book club!
I grew up in a convent & Blvd like most tht Eve was a bit of a tart, essentially evil. Till I sat down with an Islamic scholar who laughed at me. Nah, he sd, Eve had nothing to do with Adam’s shit. It was him all the way.
Always remember that it was Satan that gave humanity knowledge. We wouldn’t have anything if not for them. No phone, no lights, no motorcars. Not a single luxury. Not paper, not ink, nor books, or computers. No houses. No television. No clothing. No art. No music, no culture. No education. Nothing.
Truer words!
It is beautiful, I appreciate you sharing it. First time I have encountered this poem.
I read this as pickled more times than I'm willing to admit...
I spent three years studying religion, specifically christianity, in Divinity School. I can assure you that nowhere in the scriptures is that fruit identified as an apple. Just more christian mythology.
OMG this is so on point. I don’t know the Gloria Steinem poem but I’m going to google it right now.
Whew. This hits.
Dude I bawled reading this
I had the joy of interviewing Gloria when she came to my university campus. She was delightful and quite interesting in her views on so many things - I noticed as she aged she became a little more aware of the hate that men also receive and she was against that🩵🙌
Pretty sure Adam picked the apple... and it got stuck in his throat... and it was decided to blame Eve - because bad things happening to men surely cannot be their own fault. Women are the scapegoat.
What book is this?
Don't you believe, it was the temptation and the desire to cheat that drove us out of paradise?
The apple always represented unearned knowledge. So, no, I doubt everything would have been hunky-dorey.
If I recall correctly, it was Adam who was told not to eat the fruit, before Eve was even around.
Reminds me of "If women could pick the bill without bitching about it"
How about this. If you believe snakes can talk, you're fucking insane.
Oh I love this. I often think of the story as Eve wanting knowledge;nothing wrong with that. I also wonder why we admire Adam, a man so weak he couldn’t make his own decision.
There is another interpretation of the Eden Story. Yahweh was a false god who imprisoned two pure spirits and forced them into physical bodies. Lilith booked and became the Queen of Wisdom. The snake was the True God who helped Eve find independence. It's called Gnosticism.
Is that what Gnosticism is? It makes more sense especially since the whole thing with the apple is eating it opened their eyes to the truth not just what God wanted them to see and know. It's telling that the Christian narrative is blind faith. It's one of the reasons I bounced almost 30 years ago.
I define Gnosticism as the destruction of illusions.
💀
What a great poem! I'm delighted to see that some of the mansplainers have migrated from Twitter to help us understand it fully....
Terrific. Thank you for this. #poetrysky
That's actually a really good point, and brilliantly illustrated too! Where can I find more of her work?
Love this!
No apple in the Bible, just metaphorical 'fruit'.
"What if men lies so much that Adam actually bit the apple and blamed it in Eve? And that's why the apple is stuck in our throat."
What if the Bible writer who wrote the Eden story deliberately switched the apple grabber? Adam would be having babies, grappling with pro lifers.
Chills
So true!
Nice!
I love this.
This!👆👌👏
Too real right there. Would anyone notice if I drank before work?
I've always hated the fact that the whole point of the apple, was to hold knowledge from Adam/Eve.. What kind of God teases something in front of them, only to say if you eat it, you'll be punished. Fuck off.
Had to be a Canadian making the comments. I wanna see you fume: there are only two genders
They have no idea what it's like, more men should read this or The Red Tent.
Love this! Thanks for sharing
Wisely composed
Love this! ❤️
I actually really like this. Sadly, it's so true
When the first man gives birth, the human race is doomed to extinction.
I'm a fan of Eve. Something I had to b quiet about in the Baptist church.
"... except among WOMEN..."
There it is.
This feels oddly liberating to read!
Oh I needed that, thank you 🫶🏼
Wow!
🤔 But what kind of apple was it?
That is powerful and true.
Wow, how true 👍
Would you mind sharing what book this is? I would love to do a deeper dive. 💙
Love!
Thank you for posting. Love her writing!
@drsherry.bsky.social - I thought of you!
I like this poem. It’s been my experience in life. I am a 70 yr old white male. Career was in hi-tech. White male dominated. Being a white male I saw and experienced doors open for me that weren’t there for others.
Thanks for sharing. I'll check those authors out.
So true
I posted this on Facebook, and while most of my colleagues "got it," there were some who thought it sacrilegious. I think it's a clever way for a poet to imagine something beyond what we "think" is reality when it's really just another made-up story.
Absolutely love this but also initially read it as “If Adam Pickled the Apple” and was SO confused
Hi fellow authors....
Brilliant!
God forgot that to give birth and nurture life is a sacred quality of female. But created eve from the rib of male.
📌
😂 if adam picked the apple it would likely lead to a reevaluation of gender roles, a shift in social dynamics, and potentially new frameworks for discussing equality, bodily autonomy, and reproductive rights.
Yeah, because Promethean figures in myth get good press. And Eve is (as far as I know) the only woman in that role.
Reminds me of the saying before Roe v. Wade: If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a Constitutional right.
If men could menstruate, period products would be in every restroom for free, bodily autonomy would be legal everywhere, evangelicals would be quoting the Bible in support of contraception.
Sounds like a very bitter (rather scorned) person wrote the text. What a pity - can’t be happy about anything in life.
Wow good one❤️
Wars are replacing absence of menstruation.
Very much on point! Thanks for sharing!
In the Garden of Eden when naked Eve plays with snakes Why would she eat the apple?
Definitely, so true.
📌
Maybe it was Adam who ate it. Bible was translated by men
You know that Gloria Steinem was a CIA agent ... She writes like one too
I absolutely love that!!! (There's a cartoon I saw when I was getting a mammogram. A man arrived at the doctor's office for his maleogram and the nurse said, "Now just stick your XXXXX in here and we'll squeeze it really tight." The expression on his face was classic.
I hope the minions haven't banned Gloria yet.
I love this vibe, because it does show something true about a double standard. That said the Bible shows women literally murdering their enemies and leading Israel at various times so not sure this is literally true haha
How do we know if it was really an apple?
One of my favorites!
Definitely following you for this. Thanks for sharing
Very good! It’s so true.
Lovely poem and makes me feel like a Feast of the Apples should be created. Traditions will include sharing interesting stories, scientific discoveries. Creation of sweet marble runs and other rube golbergian contraptions highly recommended.
I remember that article in Ms Magazine… she said that if men menstruated we would have Joe Namath brand tampons 😂
Especially a trans woman like eve. (Genetic clone from a man's rib uwu)
❤️💙
"And a woman's desire for freedom ..." 💣
Yes yes yes! Poetry on social media! I’ve come to the right platform!
IMO, the Bible is the longest, hardest to read fiction ever written.
The whole thing regarding Eve and the entire story sets up the scapegoat complex itself. It sets up scapegoat and redeemer. A false paradigm that does not lead to any true liberation. Just the whole good versus evil spiel. Scapegoating the feminine and what is "Other". Like Perera wrote about...
Or how about woman was created as an improved version of the rough draft?
Technically the Goddess Nyx was the first created being. Everything arose from her. All of life. Even consciousness itself, next to love. She existed before any male deity had seen the day of light.
Now that's cool.
I know right!
I thought you had made it up on the spot but then I looked it up! I couldn't believe a D&D kid from the 80's with an English degree didn't know about her. (I loved poring over the Deities & Demigods manual with all the mythos and more.)
Actually this is from Orphism and not D&D. She is the first created being in some Orphic sects. Sometimes it is Phanes and sometimes Nyx. I tend to lean Nyx. It is pretty obscure stuff. You can read about it here. themystictable.substack.com/p/the-cosmog...
Right, I wasn't trying to say Nyx came from D&D but rather that D&D campaigns often have an upper plane/mythos/deities that can be straight up Norse (my favorite back then) or Greek, which from what I understand, is directly from the original Greek. Now that you mention Orphism, I am wondering if Ny
Nyx is in the musical Hadestown. One of my kids have me this book & I will check. Seems like this is related? Cool! I haven't seen the musical but listen to certain songs from it fairly often.
"At the foundation of Orphism itself is Nyx. The source of all life. While societal structures may portray the primal feminine as chaos, and thus something to fear, it can instead be better understood as a vital regulating force. The snake, often viewed as a harbinger of danger, also serves a healin
The Poppy as a flower is related to her. It is her symbol. I do not know regarding Hadestown. I do know about Hades and his original link to Zagreus before his name became the same as the realm called Hades. This stuff is generally my area of expertise. Death and Rebirth.
.. the Sovereignty Goddess and vegetation deity (with horns). Demonised and made into symbols of repression. Things to be feared. The witch and devil. Instead of seeing them for the Sovereignty Goddess and Rising and Dying vegetation deity. Death and Rebirth. Going beyond the ego, that they worship.
I have gone deep into Sylvia Brinton Perera's work. Their god really is the Accuser Azazel that they make the original vegetation deity to be. Their true god if they follow legalism and letter of the law-ism is the Accuser. The inner critic and made up dualistic notions to punish others. Not god.
archive.org/details/scap... Here is the book of the Jungian analyst Perera. She helped women free themselves from this patriarchal oppression. In a way so you can not be psychologically oppressed anymore. I have done the inner work myself, to free myself too. It is not easy but worth it.
This a great and relatively obscure book. I learned much from it about groups and my own inner scapegoat-playing the role others have given me and I freely accepted. Powerful.
I used this myself to free myself. I used to be a scapegoat for 27 years. Stuck in what I call the ghost mommy role. Having to self-sacrifice and pretend my needs do not exist. She really helped me with the book. I also worked a lot on reclaiming the feminine too. Which is work that made me cry.
Damn straight.
📌
We do though ...but it's called " Manstrating ". We don't bleed of course but we get bishy ....I'm sorry I'm not trying to be misogynistic...trying to be funny ...
Love this poem. I’ve shared it with multiple people.
I found Blue Sky via Facebook. I'm not sure of all the facts and neither do I claim to. What about the alleged Lilith in the alleged Holy Bible? Apparently, she was Adams 1st Partner/Spouse/Wife. I don't know about this alleged account until I was in my 30's. I found out about her via YouTube.
Slightly related: music.apple.com/us/album/eve...
😢😢😢
I’d be sad to ever let my daughter read it. To her, atleast for now, in god’s eyes we are all equal and there is fairness. This poem in all it’s axiomatic beauty, shatters even that consolation.
Spot on!
WOW! Profound and true
I love this. ❤️
