I don’t recall an era when America was ever GREAT for Jews, Blacks, Gays, women, Native Americans, etc. This country is rapidly regressing back to times of fear and destruction. Racism/misogyny never ended, people just covered it up better . No matter what, we weren’t dealing with this MAGA 💩. FDJT
Memoir…my grandfather fought on Iwo Jima and I asked why did he serve a country that did not love him and he said so I could have it better! No America was never perfect, hell your own neighborhood may never be perfect regardless of race or creed but it was those who answered the call anyway!
I can agree to that one. As I told my students, white men and women marched alongside MLK. The Civil Rights Movement didn’t befall them directly, but it was the principle of it.
Exactly! I told both my sons to embrace others because when we look back on the wars this country has gone through, no matter the struggle back home, every creed race gender serving under Ole Glory, We all carried the same fearful battle face the same cry into the face of our enemies!
That was my America! My country where I could salute the old vet and he returned it knowingly with out hint of his/her age. Thank you for allowing me to reply. Happy Labor Day!
Happy Labor Day!
To make this country better. And this is the reason why maga wants to take it all back! It’s because we were close! SO CLOSE! And maga got scared of becoming insignificant as they thrive under the labor of others No America was great! Might not had been perfect but I was proud to be an American Vet!
I’m STILL proud to be an American. No matter what’s happening, I love this country. I’m a Black woman. I went to my first MLB game in the 70s at the age of 8 and was spit on and called a nigger. So, I’ve never felt that “closeness”, but things were manageable and the hate was less prevalent.
My sister! This black man was raised in Louisiana and Mississippi and have gone through my share of sundown towns and I too have been spat on and called a nigger. I will never forget, but I’ve met some truly wonderful and beautiful Americans! Now that America was great!
I’ve lived in Louisiana too and graduated from a predominantly white college in Missouri, the only Blk English major. I have met beautiful Americans of all walks of life, even living overseas. I’m not pessimistic, but my reality is different from yours. No two people are the same. I respect that.
