Yeah, I was talking to a coworker about this, he was saying his 18-y/o is top of his class, all AP courses, perfect SAT score etc., and didn’t get into any of his top schools The guy is earnestly upset for his son and I tried to gently suggest learning to deal with disappointment is also important

I won’t say it’s not brutal and I honestly feel terrible for kids fighting through that system. It sucked for me!!!!! But the answer is not schizoreactionary maga politics lmao. I like your response a whole lot! Super important and a lesson these kids are NOT learning…

It’s also only ‘brutal’ because of a terrible life-long framing choice by parents. A world where kids take this less seriously is a far better one imo

The entire combined undergrad population of the Ivy League is 70,000 students. Between 15-25 of those represent legacy admissions. So, you are talking about millions of “high achieving” families competing for maybe 20,000 open freshman slots each year. The “low acceptance rate” is the sales pitch.
