Looks like we're circling around a used Hyundai Kona. Test drove the Chevy Equinox and it was great, but not $50K great and the Mach-E which was surprisingly underwhelming. Still love the Escape PHEV. A little SUV that's pretty good at everything I need it to do.

Only thing to be aware of with older Konas is boot space. We absolutely love ours (it’s four years old) and that has literally been the only thing we’d change.

I've been curious if phev is the best eco choice for some drivers... Y'know, those who rarely drive more then the small range... Have u looked into that? There's probably $$ efficiency but not sure about the other pieces.

Read this. Nice work. The other piece of the puzzle is car-coops. They're a great fix for small battery short range most of the time and a bigger battery for longer trips. Turo is interesting here... One can rent a long range Ev for less than the price of owning a gas vehicle.

Notably, we are in a charging dead zone and I'm either driving <40 miles or >200, so the math really works in the PHEV's favor out here.

Did you look at the RAV4 Prime PHEV? Heard great things about it. Wife has a Prius Prime and absolutely loves it. Thinking about it myself, but hard to find inventory to test drive in my part of the country.

Looked at both. I have the Escape PHEV and it fits us more than the RAV4 Prime. We had a rental RAV4 for the last week and it was underwhelming. Prius Prime was high up on the list for PHEVs.

Recently rented an Escape for a trip in the Bay Area (didn’t choose it, just got it) and it was…fine. I was honestly surprised by the end of the trip that I thought I wouldn’t mind owning this car.

It's not great at anything, but it's good at everything, and, importantly, it's not bad at anything. What surprised me the most going from a Toyota family is that Ford's are very much built to fit an average sized American dude, and I, an average sized American dude, find it incredibly comfortable.

Did you consider a Bolt? They're pretty cheap now, and if you don't need really fast charging it's fantastic.
