One reason Democratic members of Congress are still going on about "bipartisanship" and "distractions" is because they and their staff members are still spending most of their time on X. The online people who would normally talk sense into them are all here on Bluesky. 🧵

We all live in a simulacrum but DC Dems doubly so because they live in a simulacrum of their consultants’ and staff’s simulacrum.

No. The reason is they all take money from AIPAC and major corporate donors. They go on about bipartisanship and distractions because they want to say something that won't rock any boats or expose them to the possibility of being primaried. You can't buff the turd that is the Democratic party.

As far as I’m concerned bipartisanship is dead. The GOP has become a party that is unrecognizable in beliefs and values. Ronald Reagan would be considered too “woke” to belong. It’s now a cult of Trump and I want my Democratic Representatives to work against everything they stand for.

They also had the recent experience of impeaching Trump twice, convicting him of a felony, indicting him in 4 jurisdictions, mounting the two largest protests in US history, watching him assault the Capitol on TV and losing to him because people were unhappy with inflation.

I’m so fucking tired of the outrage you juveniles exhibit bc a dem uses the word bipartisan. When something is actually bipartisan (support for release of the Epstein files) there’s no reason not to use it. And yes goddamn it, it is a worthy aspiration in a democratic society.

Most of them have completely dropped off posting on Bsky aside from a few with scheduled posts. I believe this is an intentional reaction to two things: 1. Mamdani’s win and their realization of how powerful bsky actually is. 2. The very valid and logical criticisms made of their poor strategy here.

They've cooked their brains over there listening to Yglesias, Klein, Shor, etc., while surrounded by a cacophony of MAGA Nazis and troll farm bots. It's not healthy. The algorithm on X actively warps how people see the world in an extremely toxic way. It becomes much worse when your friends leave.

This is, of course, not an argument for returning to that far-right cesspool. It's just another sign that they should be here, with the ideological spear point of their political party. I'm not saying it's the only reason they're acting like this. Far from it. But it's a significant factor.

Information spaces are siloed off from each other. If you're hanging out at a Nazi bar, getting yelled at all day, it makes sense when Matt Yglesias advises you to reason or make peace with the other patrons. But it would make a lot more sense to just leave.

Sounds like a factor but not all? E.g. what accts for Blue state gov'ts, most of which had break-glass plans in place with budget by November '24. Gallup says 2% Dems + 27% Inds vs 89% R's are w Trump, the way is clearly not bipartisan. They should grok that without online discussion, you know?
