I feel like I can be compassionate. But also be awful to someone who disagrees with me as much as Trey Gowdy; by basically telling us we should thank the killer for sending these children to heaven

I beg to differ. The astonishing prevalence, in America, of believers in supernatural beings is IMHO the root cause of many of your problems. Start with the level of gullibility/stupidity that is required, the money that is extracted from the poor the power/control the patriarchal theocracy etc etc
