Effing bastard rats have chewed through the wire on the new bloody lights in the tree. Good job I am a) equipped with bits to connect the wire up again and b) have the pest control team coming on Thursday. Tired of the fuckers causing havoc in the garden.

this is definitely rats. I've had to discontinue the bird buffet because that's what brought them to the garden in the first place.
Yeah my wife won’t let me have any kind of bird feeders for the same reason

Rats are quite fascinating in the abstract but are destructive fucking bastards in the reality of living with them. My limited experience of "pest control" is mostly "stop living the way you live".
