They can do anything
I remember that ad campaign by Bell Canada!
Once they covered all of North America by the millions. Even the desert needs beaver to dam water and give animals of all kind life. Once they were even here in Death Valley. That blows my mind but explains drops in wildlife over the last 10,000 yrs. Water is life.
I thought Canada’s national emblem was those cuddly, friendly geese?
Nature saving the Earth?! Who-woulda-thunk-it 😋
Proof that beavers are smarter than Republicans.
Truth!
NGL, this is giving me a craving to fire up some Timberborn! store.steampowered.com/app/1062090/...
👍
@nancyspantsbelt.bsky.social
Classic! 🤣
Good am!☕💚☕ Hope your weekend is going swimmingly.😂
Beavers are so dang cool
Apparently doesn’t take much to be smarter than humans….
Sadly true
Another keystone species like wolves and whales, they keep the ecosystem healthy…
Let beavers be! ✌️
"bucktoothed national emblem" @secondmentions.bsky.social
Bóbr nie jest kurwa!
Don't tell Trump
Beavers are amazing engineers and havre been shown to restore ecosytem's health that has been damaged by human intervention. The level of intelligence of animals is under rated
It's why beavers are considered a keystone species
BC beavers get trapped & wetlands get filled. @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social No BC species at risk act‼️ MOE Heyman fought/won in court to kill Fed endangered species. BCNDP SR Orcas extinction by: -starvation -coal T2 expansion/pollution -strikes/noise/emissions via exponential fossil fuel tankers
Yes! Bring the beavers back to USA and all America will bloom! :-) The beaver saves the wildlife, the ground water and only do good! Farmers need the water! :-)
Im surprised the don't have any beaver in the us. I wonder if the people living there screwed with nature way to mush compared to other countried because in europe we have a tons of them heck there are a few near my house down hill.
They do have beavers but not in the millions they used to have before the Euriopean settelers arrived for the gold rush beginning in 1848. The European settelers killed millions of beavers fot the fur. Later wetlands were removed for farming... it's a tricky issue!
I thought this was common knowledge? Didn't they help stabilise yellowstone with the reintroduction of the wolves?
There are *lots* of examples of this in wildlife: bison in Yellowstone, wolves in Yellowstone, gophers on Mt. St. Helens...
Don't tell Trump or he will pay for every Beaver is killed, like the grey wolves.
They’re also terribly effective at derailing trains by washing out the track and have been routinely dynamited.
There's an excellent documentary about this on YouTube. They also help to contain wildfires by keeping vegetation and soil saturated.
Interesting. Makes sense
In summary: Humans get out of the way, and leave the beavers alone to cook 🦫✌🏽
Duh, indigenous peoples have known this for centuries.
Our beaver engineers work non-stop in France to restore rivers. To repair the destruction caused by the recalibration and dredging carried out during the ‘remembrement’ of the 50s and 60s. Local authorities in France are working by adding wood to rivers, just like the beavers.
👏
The beaver in that preview picture looks so locked in and ready.
Greetings from Beaverton, Oregon yes, still a home to actual beavers!
I used to live there! Hiked along the waterways and loved seeing their little teeth marks all over young trees. Saw once scurrying into the bushes as we passed. Beaverton is beautiful
It really is, we both love living here ! I often hike along the waterways too 🙌 Beavers are so shy! They swim out sometimes around twilight.
Greetings, eh!
Beavers fight fire and drought, it’s been known well before we all came to this continent
Just don’t cross over the border they might be arrested.
😂
It's what they do, we all know that.
Beavers make North America really really great. No finer sentient altruistic engineering found anywhere else. Any remediation of the environment must have them at the nexus of recovery/healing. They are the giver/provider of life. Replenish rivers, streams, lakes and aquifers. A BEST PRACTICE
Beavers can flood hundreds of acres, it’s not good situation.
that may be the better situation
You're just plain wrong. Beaver ponds sequester millions of gallons of water, protecting areas from drought. In areas where beavers are allowed to do their thing, the ecosystem is far healthier than areas where they've been eradicated. Watch "Leave it to Beavers" on PBS. This isn't new science.
📌
Sometimes... If they build dams too near houses, it can result in flooding them.
This is yet an example of humans being surprised that nature can manage perfectly well if just LEFT ALONE. Humans go in, disturb the natural order by adding new species and killing off the native ones. And is suprised the ecosystems are destroyed.
I knew they were habitat engineers but was truly gobsmacked by the gorgeous landscape they'd created at Knepp rewilding project - Sussex Everglades
The findings add weight to facts known for centuries. Fixed it
Thank you!
Yes, yes, yes!!!! Beavers know what they're doing, far better than humans. The beaver works WITH the environment, instead of just trying to conquer it! Smart little guys! It's about time, we appreciate just how smart beavers are!
Idaho has known this for decades, it's why we air dropped beavers into the back country.
Hopefully at very low altitude.
They had parachutes. Not kidding. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver_...
Back in 1948!
🫶👍
Beavers are amazing creatures and will do this as long as man doesn't screw things up and destroy their habitat.
i wonder what the beavers think of those concrete monstrosities we humans build without any attention to the ecosystems they destroy
Frustrated in indigenous
What a blessing these little fellas are. We have them in the anna branch waterway but they are under threat from local farmers due to unwanted flooding of fields for hay production but I hear them complain of dry soils and small crops. Strange paradox. Some don't see the benefits only the problems.
During the covid activity, when we were all hunkered down, Saskatoon became enamored with a family of beavers on the south Saskatchewan river. They're really amazing creatures. Community Feature: Mike Digout | CPAWS Saskatchewan share.google/zMvE1QV3VF8r...
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
There are so many photos of our South Saskatchewan cuties!🦫
I'm familiar! 😉
Duh 🙄🤣
Buck-tooth waterbilly's
This is an overstatement. An experiment in the ‘60s showed that beavers will bury a speaker broadcasting the sound of rushing water until it can’t be heard. They don’t look around and decide where to build a dam, they instinctively respond to the sound of moving water.
I’m from Beaverton, Oregon, and they are virtually extinct there. Go figure?
💔
Thought that everyone knew that already. Beaver, Wolf, Bear they help a healthy ecosystem. Humans just have to admire and respect them, for tdoing all that work.
No way! Nature knows more than humans? Who would have thought.
But what about the trees they leave downed? They only take the branches off the top after felling a tree. The rest just lays there forever rotting away.
That, too, is important to the ecosystem! The felled tree becomes a more accessible shelter for native insect species and ground-dwelling fauna. The rotting is also beneficial, as fungi will break down the tree, as opposed to being wholly removed. It is part of a nutrient cycle
The remaining wood can be burned for heating, as it will rot if left there anyway.
Nature is the greatest engineer. We humans stupidly work against it to our peril.
The water keepers
they are keystone critters
Indeed.
The questions to most of our modern day catastrophes, were answered by nature eons ago. Yellowstone was reshaped by wolves. Mt. St Helens by ground dwellers. It's an important lesson.
Nature, if we pay attention, has solutions to most of the environmental issues we face. Be like the Beaver.
Wildfires are part of the natural processes of regeneration in an ecosystem and some pyrophytic plants like Eucalyptus, Banksia, Lodgepole pine and Giant Redwood, benefit from occasional fires clearing an area. Beavers are natural methods of controlling wildfires. youtu.be/poOISKZFG9s
Was there ever any doubt?
No!
Has already been proven to be true.
Don't tell Trump. He'll insist on shooting them.
Another manufactured threat to national security!
Reintroducing them back to places in England. Much to the annoyance of local farmers. But sod ‘em.
nothing like a fat wet beaver 😉
Beavers: Release the world engine
Nice!
All of gods creatures were created with preservation in mind.
Go Canadians!
Like humans?
Cool, cool, cool. Scientists just discovered something that natives have known for centuries and centuries.
Bingo
When you can't get humans to take care of the environment, call in the beavers.
It’s a Canadian thing! ❤️🤍🇨🇦🤍❤️
We just need to let them cook.
And they thought I was crazy! bsky.app/profile/box-...
Imagine life without beavers
maga: guided by jewish space lasers
SMDH. MTG is a racist space cadet.
Murdering such animals changes the landscape?
If only humans could learn from their mistakes!
💕
😂🤣😂 perfect!!!
I've always been pro-beaver.
A healthy beaver population is essential for a balanced ecosystem. Where beavers are indigenous of course.
Unfortunately they’re returning the Netherlands to its natural state (mostly underwater)
They're the greatest!
There's a place here in Canada who created a pastry!
TRUST THE BEAVERS
If we humans would stop destroying their habitats & killing them, we would be astounded by all the benefits the animal kingdom brings to this planet...
Wait, you mean mother nature knows what she is doing? Next, you'll tell me that having predators, like wolves, in the wild makes the prey and plants healthier. Don't be crazy.
Nature does fine on her own.
❤️🙏😁 THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE GOD JESUS CHRIST, SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE SAVED IN JESUS 💗 🙏, AND DO NOT EAT ANY MEAT RIGHT NOW, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED💔🥺
📌
Who did not know this?
But yeah We need way more beavers 🤓
They’re responsible for filling most of our natural aquifers - then they were hunted almost to extinction…we suck.
We suck beyond that reason, especially the unmellanined.
Desperation makes people assholes.
So does racism and misogyny.
Desperate to make those beaver hats and coats for the English?
Bro no species was hunted to extinction out of desperation that’s just stupid propaganda you are willfully believing
Pretty sure that you have no idea as to the level of hunger that once existed.
Pretty sure neither do you
If you say so, Karen.
I do say so ya fucking dick
Poor Karen. No one cares what you think.
As they should, im just some fucking white dude. But you’re a dick.
No one cares what you think. You're just another lazy idiot.
Great post
Now the Big Oil will target them too?
Fire control. :)
Every living creature adds to the environment except humans
we know humans aren't doing it.
i find it weird that people cannot figure out that every living thing on this planet has a purpose to perpetuate the ecosystem and life. Of course most humans are the only ones thinking we are not connected to anything and actively live as parasites on a host. There is only one earth. There are no
other hosts to attach ourselves to. Humans are planet killers.
I personally have always liked beavers Just saying
They create wetlands where they wouldn't be. It absolutely would be a fire deterrent. It won't work now because some developer will bitch loud enough with a handful of cash to get a politician to change any law necessary.
Beavers are amazing.
This isn't new research at all. In 2014, the PBS documentary "Leave it to Beavers" showed how they are a keystone species that mitigates drought and helps create a healthy ecosystem.
They turn a forested creek valley into a swamp full of fallen trees. If those trees were in danger of burning, that's a good thing. Before the New World, Europe got its beaver pelts from Ukraine.
Those swamps are wetlands that provide habitats and help mitigate flooding, too.
As a boy scout in the Rockies of Colorado, I did see a beaver looking down his arm at a 6-inch (or,so) stick that he was holding up against an aspen grove next to a stream ... Another beaver (his wife?) was gnawing some notes on a wood chunk ... I didn't mean to bother 'em - they did wave ...
Distinguished and polite.
I just walked by one on trail other night and they are amazing.😍
There is not enough beavers in this world to re route Trumps waterways anymore........... now its straight down the catheter
Animals are way more in tune with nature than people will ever be
Nature knows bedt
I thought that was already a given.
Actually though, I thought it was pretty self evident that beavers know what they’re doing within their ecosystem, far better than we do.
More recognition!
The modest, hardworking beaver is the perfect symbol for Canada.
This is why we love beavers. Not the cutest animals on the planet, just industrious and polite.
