Hubby & I watch an egret on nearby pond--which I am painting versions of-- and just sold an older painting, plus print. Am wild about egrets, herons.... Dad and I "saved" a freezing blue heron from a frzn marsh, as a teen, b4 realizing ab his beak--I "unfroze" him (in a big box)wood stove.

These are spectacular. You probably know they’re cousins with crows, corvidae, so they’re great problem solvers. We have the California scrub jay and they’re rascals - and are sometimes really bad bullies. They used to bully our blind cat for his kibble!

🪶Steller's Jay. This bird was banded in Yosemite National Park in May of 2021 by IBP biologist Lauren Helton. It had mud and grass in its mouth suggesting it was in the process of building a nest. (All birds handed by certified banders under appropriate federal and state permits.)

WE HAD ONE OVER THE WINTER DOWN IN SOUTH FLORIDA. They usually don’t go further south than Orlando and we are at least a three hour drive from Orlando. It was a sight to see! We also have a similar looking loggerhead shrike that hangs out.

They certainly are. What a beautiful bird & wonderful picture. I've recently managed to lure a neighborhood family of crows to my yard for treats. I haven't been able to get a great picture. At first it was only the smaller one that came, now one of the bigger birds comes with. They are so cute.

He was after the roadkill on the road I was heading home on. With fields on one side and wooded lots on the other ... there is plenty of roadkill happening there. See Turkey Vultures along this stretch al the time, but first time with a bald eagle.
