Our common grackle is the Great-tailed Grackle and very regular here. I have a handful in my backyard right now. Occasionally I’ll see a Common Grackle. I think the Boat-taileds are more southern than us.

I grew up in Virginia and we saw buzzards regularly, mockingbirds, Cardinals, Blue Jays, etc. When I moved to New England it was a whole different ball game. I've been enjoying seeing your Texas birds!

One of the cool things about birding is traveling to see birds that don’t live in your area so I enjoy doing that when I can as well. What are ur fav New England birds?

Love the Red Winged Blackbirds, the bossy Carolina Wrens, the Nuthatches who run down the trees, Dark-eyed Juncoes who are around fall/winter, Grosbeaks etc. and those are around the feeders! We have neighborhood turkeys thanks to a neighbor who feeds them, we've learned a lot about them.

We have tons of gulls, I had no idea how many different types there are. Sandpipers, plovers, and barn swallows make for interesting beach time viewing as well. What are your favorites?

Since we are near the coast we get tons of shorebirds and other seabirds as well. Each family is a handful to learn intimately but all part of the birding challenge. Fun birds right now in the yard are Green Jays. We have a Purple Martin colony so enjoying them getting ready for nesting also.

Are Martins the birds that people used to put up those huge birdhouses for? Like small bird hotels? I remember seeing them at golf courses and resorts when I was a kid in the south.

Yes. Purple Martins live in man provided colonies. Mine are gourds. 2 sets of 12 gourds. Pic of ours this foggy morning.

Well the Red-winged Blackbirds are plentiful for us. Depending on the season we get tons in our yard. Main wren in our area close to the coast are House Wrens. Don’t see the Nuthatches or Juncos since we moved to Corpus Christi. Rose-breasted and Blue Grosbeaks we see during migration.

We definitely have an abundance of common grackles. We also get starlings and red-winged blackbirds. Our most common large birds are wild turkeys, red-tailed hawks, crows, and an abundance of seagulls and migratory seabirds, geese, and ducks. We see the occasional black turkey vulture here.
