Will these alliances between the European far right and the Israeli government be cut once Netanyahu loses reelection next year?
Will these alliances between the European far right and the Israeli government be cut once Netanyahu loses reelection next year?
Almost definitely. But the damage is done.
And this alliance is now deeply rooted not just on the elite level, but in the Israeli right-wing's voter and activist base.
Isn't Bennett right wing himself? Wouldn't these connections stay when Bennett becomes prime minister?
That's a big if. He's a bit of an wild card - "right wing" because of his national religious sectarian identity, but out of step with national religious politics because of his Anglo background and values. Hence getting kicked out of his own party.
Do you think a coalition government with Bennett as prime minister will continue these relationships with the European far right?
I have no idea, that's why I said "wild card". I just don't think Bennett as prime minister is the most likely outcome. I think his current strength in polls is based on his being a blank slate who isn't in the news taking concrete positions.
Who do you think is going to be prime minister after Netanyahu?
Most likely Gantz. Possibly Lapid. But then, נבואה ניתנה לשוטים
What's the Hebrew mean?
"Prophecy was given to the mad." (The origin is a theological statement about the destruction of the Temple, but is used more broadly.)
