During covid the government helped pay rents and mortgages.banks and landlords raised rates to get more money.after covid they kept the rates high.basically they ripped the government off.hot used to having that money .Didn't lower rates down after covid .

in seattle we passed a social housing initiative and *then* passed funding for social housing. bigly. bruce harrell was the face of that opposition if it passed it would have nullified the social housing PDA. bruce's comp plan is 2 tears late and *eliminated* affordable homes for luxury townhomes

zero rent control or stabilization + poor parameters for landlords are allowing them to boost the rents up to 9.95% (so they can get out of paying the cost of people leaving). They are tacking on WSG at flat rates (not measured) another $90 per person
plus they are charging $200+ more for people who want to go month to month so they have some flexibility to leave in case of emergencies or financial crisis, forcing them to sign 1-yr leases. landlords are forcing all leases to the high season of May-Sep when prices are highest
landlords have played the game so that they can push all leases to this time frame, which favors them and makes it impossible for tenants to leave during November - Feb when rents naturally decrease.
they are also now starting to charge for handymen to come over if they determine the renter is at fault for a blocked drain. what is the solution? nobody can afford to buy a house when a dump is over $600,000.
and not everyone wants to buy a house. some people want flexibility.
