LOL I think the song is incredible right up until the opera. It's an all-timer ballad which a bunch of nonsense tacked on the end. (Though the nonsense does admittedly hit pretty hard if you're in the right mood).

I always forget how long it takes to get to the opera bit! This was probably the main reason it didn’t get a vote in the end (I am pro it - would be in the teens for me on this list too)

8 on Popular seems right to me. I’d give Somebody To Love a 9 - another that takes ages to get to its nonsense bit but I prefer the bit that goes first to there.

I mean, that weren’t me! (As I suppose intimated by the fact I don’t think it the best Queen song). One of my contenders for best of all time still not counted out yet, mind you. Though there’s no prizes for guessing what that is, especially as it also includes its own streak of nonsense.

Bo Rhap is #2 on Acclaimed (and #1 was the ineligible Born To Run) so it’s a proper critical heavyweight too for all the eye rolling it gets for being overplayed

Yeah, it's funny, it's objectively a studio masterpiece but I'm perfectly happy with the Live Aid version. Guess such divergent opinions cement its greatness.

The thing is we kind of have proof points inasmuch as there are big old Queen ballads their fans like and no one else knows anything about. But whack this onto a band’s intro tape and people are singing along with it and, I posit, it’s the “goes too far until horsehoes back” bit that is responsible.
