Zelda fans buy Zelda but everyone plays Mario Kart. I get wanting a meatier thing but Mario Kart is way more appealing to a mass market

Mario Kart is a “and I’ll also pick this up” game. Zelda is infinitely more clipable, shareable, and streamable which means more viral marketing. MK’s barrier to entry is lower but ability to engage new fans is too.

I would agree IF: 1. the Zelda we were talking about was TOTK and not BOTW 2. the Mario Kart wasn't World. I've seen loads of clips of shortcuts, not to mention how many streams there have been since multiplayer games are generally more popular for streams

I don’t disagree but imo S2’s success is cashing in on S1’s justifiably earned goodwill and wouldn’t hold its own in a vacuum like S1 did.

Not trying to weigh quality here because I think both games have their unique appeal, but the thing that pushes a console is the feeling that you don’t want to miss out on the trending conversation. No one is really asking if you heard about the latest secret in MK.
