They also had Napoleon during that time. The odds of a revolution producing a stable government on the first go are pretty low, and if the US hadn’t succeeded, few European countries would likely have tried it. Lincoln’s Gettysburg address is all about that problem.

Oh to be sure, this was a snarky quip based largely on me going, “uh… I do not think that French Revolution is the French Revolution you’re thinking of…” in my head about people’s Les Mis posting, (and nevermind how I’m totally hand waving away the beta Articles of Confederation version of the US!)
