It’s called truth and reconciliation. I do not want revenge. Revenge creates a cycle of death.
It’s called truth and reconciliation. I do not want revenge. Revenge creates a cycle of death.
Know what creates a cycle of death? Constantly letting fascists kill people then saying "oh you naughty naughties, promise not to do it again?" any time they are ousted.
I didn’t say that. Nuremberg Trails and other examples exist without mobs being called up to hang people from a post. You can read all that I’ve written. But if you must. Go ahead. Become them. So be it.
South Africa is not the US and we have a lot more MAGA than they had Afrikaaners. That's rather the point. But if pretending I'm calling for mob justice is how Chamberlain types sleep at night, scream into the void I guess.
You responded to me. I ain’t no chamberlain. Tons of people on this site routinely post images of guillotines or use violent rhetoric as a solution to the current troubles. Like one of the people on the thread. So you know, when someone says revenge, like MAGA, I don’t equate that with justice.
Cause you know, human rights aren’t a pick n mix.
Correct which is why I will not agree with another attempt to let MAGA off the hook. That literally got us Trump in 2024.
Who said I wanted them off the hook? I have already talked at length about my perspective w/ the author of this post in a separate conversation/ thread. I think revenge for revenge’s sake is wrong. That is all I was stating & that is based on my readings of MLK & my extensive knowledge of history.
To be clear I'm aware that the OP specifically called out revenge and am not defending it. I'm just pointing out that even without revenge as a motive we cannot have a call for unity with that base. Even if they aren't jailed their movement needs to be defanged entirely not compromised with.
I never said I wanted unity. I want accountability and justice. And I want wholesale changes in the laws and regulations of the country. But it will emanate from a place of love, not hate for me. That is all.
You were responding to someone saying they don't want bullshit "unity" as their primary statement. If you don't disagree with that part then we're just quibbling over nothing.
MLK's writings include Birmingham jail. It is true that my only context here is of course this one comment thread, but based on this thread at least... Self defense is not revenge. A significant amount of MAGA literally want to murder my friends for being trans and nonwhite.
You are reading way more into my original statement than is actually there. This is the first time self defense has been mentioned. Of course I support that right. I believe in the concept of civil disobedience & that unjust laws should not be followed.
King wrote Strength of Love during the Birmingham campaign. He talks extensively about what I am trying to get across. kinginstitute.stanford.edu/strength-love
