The invite era users were largely variously marginalized people trying to carve out a chill space. (Not that I need to tell you, you were there.) But because a majority of users had to keep an eye on the temperature regarding their existence, they were forced to be at least nominally political.
Hence, the tone that continues and is reinforced by a culture of informing milquetoast centrists who ignorantly shoot their mouths off of our displeasure and our generous suggestions of what they can do to rectify the situation.
Also the invite era was kind of exclusive? So a small account (like me) had a hard time getting invited. Not sure how that fits the narrative but it had an impact on the types of people here early on
