A gloomy, hard-hitting article about Donald Tusks' failure to turn Poland around: "Just like Joe Biden squeezed between two terms of Donald Trump, Tusk will also turn out to be the parenthesis, a brief interlude in a wider populist-nationalist reign" www.ft.com/content/d28c...

While ruthless populists rape rules and institutiins, feckless staying-within-the-rules democrats get eaten alive....

As of 2027 the gravity of eu politics will be nation state focust with Poland, France and German election cycles bringing rightwing parties to power. This will be EU’s dark century. It will lose significance, it will lose coherence, it might jeopardise even its potential. I type with heavy heart

Let's see how the #EU is going to deal with that. No such political body exists in the US.

I mean, Brussels was waging war (with very good reasons btw) against the last far-right coalition for whole years and it didn't accomplish shit. Unless they start dealing with Orban first I can't really see EU taking a meaningful stand against a far wealthier and bigger country.

Poland, irespective of who's in charge there, is Russia's enemy. In the ongoing war with Russia, Poland is on the side of Europe. That's what counts right now.

There is a quite clear division in Russia opinion for the two big blocks of Polish politics imo. While KO is openly against Russia, PiS is verbally against Russia, but privately quite pro-Russian. Konferedacja is just the result of Russia interference in Europan Politics. PiS + Konfederacja...

What you say obtains in peacetime. We're at war now. Priorities have shifted.

That's not actually true (?) www.euractiv.com/section/poli... We're talking about events happening while Russia already had attacked Ukraine in Feb 2022. Also, do not forget PiS has been openly anti-European. Unlukcily for them. EU pays a shitton of money to Poland. Otherwise they'd be gone from EU

Of course. But most Europeans couldn't care less at the time. Moreover, Trump hadn't yet appeared on the world stage. Everything has changed dramatically since 2014.

And not like that's the only example. You can search for "PiS links to Russia" and have a very good time reading. Some happened after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in Feb 2022, but definitely all happened after Crimean annexion in 2014, when the situation was already "we're at war".

The largest political party in my country is a pro-Russian, fascist movement that is part of the caretaker coalition government. They're losing hand over fist in the polls. Elections in October.

I hope you're right. The war means that almost everybody in PL seems to be on the same page vs RU now. Big problems start as soon as UA enters the room tho. And it's tackling the question of UA-EU/NATO relations that's going to be the biggest challenge in the near future. PL might be a problem here.

As a gay man I have no business in either Russia or Poland. However, Poland has experienced both German and Russian occupation and repression and will never allow that to happen again. Being under immediate threat from poverty-stricken, autocratic Russia, Poland is a staunch supporter of the #EU.

Not the far right. They fuel their base with anti europe rhetoric blaming EU of everything is wrong in their country. Exactly like brexit, Uk was overall pro EU and look what happened

When Brexit happened war against Russia had not yet broken out. Today, most people in England (it was a wholly English affair) who voted for Brexit now regret their choice, realising they were had.

And still Reform is on the rise now leading every polls. Farage is the reason of the brexit disaster and he is more popular than e er and on every single Tv. The fact that people now would be more pro-EU doesn’t stop them to vote for the guy who took them out of it

You can see in the mist recent election how Reform has grown. Also ask around and you’ll be surprised how many people are willing to vote for Reform. You doing exactly what most of you did before Brexit. You thought was nonsense and we all woke up where “they” were actually more than “us”
