I agree. Bama's performance, from a relative standpoint, has been pretty close to U-Dub's under his tenure, right? Looks good for long stretches, then faceplants at strategic times, then usually finds a way to pull out the W, but not always.

The face plants were largely really bad accuracy days for Penix, to the point where the fan base was convinced he was nursing a secret rib injury. On those bad days he’d still typically have at least one good quarter tho, and some magic happened. Simpson is so so so so not Michael Penix tho.

It is pretty funny how much certain Banana fans forget the pre-Saban and first year of Saban times.
Saban's first year at Alabama was underwhelming from a record perspective, but he took a threadbare roster and at least made every game competitive. Never lost by more than a touchdown despite being massively outgunned in personnel. Deboer was handed an enviable roster and the team often looked bad.
that last season at UDUB was the dumbest, worst, luckiest, silliest, most maddening 14-1 season possible just absolutely batshit and should have been like 7-5 in a sane world he just kept rolling nat 20s for every save
He was one of those "won a lot everywhere he went" guys, but with hindsight, it's a really small sample size at the top level.

Alabama is the only team I follow that is historically worth a shit at all so I have a cutthroat double standard with them that I don't expect of my other teams. With the Falcons or Hawks or Blue Jays it's like, "We made the playoffs, that's fun." With Alabama I'm like "Get the fuck out of our way."
Though I am excited to say that the Blue Jays are on pace to be over .500 all-time after this season. 😍

I take no joy whatsoever in watching Brian Kelly hate his current job even more than he hated his last one.
I was really discouraged after his first year. 9-4 is decent enough in year one I suppose, but it's how bad the team looked at times. And yesterday, holy smokes. They looked clueless.

I didn't expect things to keep humming along totally smoothly, but getting smoked by .500 teams and looking like you forgot what football is on the road is deeply concerning.
We looked sooo sluggish and unmotivated and just hesitant to make any kind of play. I can’t remember ever seeing a Bama team look so unsure of itself and it SUCKED. Kalen about to single-handedly push me into my “I just hope both teams have a nice time” era of sports fandom.
I'm the last thing in the world from an SEC fan/homer, but it's wild how many guys come into this league having been world beaters elsewhere and just get crushed here. It's a real career make or break league.
