Cozi TV is dropping LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE and adding 4 hours a day of GEORGE LOPEZ as it leans into "contemporary comedy.” The only pre-1980 shows on the NBCUniversal-owned digital network will now be THE MUNSTERS and COLUMBO. www.remindmagazine.com/article/3453... #TVSky #ClassicTV

Well, that’s gross. I have to say I am enjoying FrndlyTV so I can watch quite a collection of classic tv shows. Rarer ones too.

I haven’t watched Cozi since I dropped cable. It’s interesting to see it evolve into more of a FAST-style thematic channel.

Yeah, I don't get cozy (COZI) vibes from The George Lopez show (maybe some ppl do). I wish these nostalgia channels would lean even more heavily into the retro/vintage shows. Double down. So many shows that haven't seen the light of day in decades. Do some curation. Do some social media marketing.

Cozi has no presence on streaming, so I haven't it since I dropped cable, but they've been evolving for some time now. I guess their vibe is edgy family comedy now. MeTV is the best example of a channel that's stuck to its classic TV mission, and it's thriving (along w/ its spinoff channels).

Since I cut the DirecTV cord, I subscribe to FrndlyTV which has a nice selection of what I call classic TV.

I keep dipping back into Frndly TV w/ free one-week trials. They are by far the best streaming service for classic TV fans who still enjoy the linear experience.

I agree but I think anything shot as 4x3 will be seen as “old” these days

Fun fact: MeTV and all its sister channels blow up (most) 4:3 content so it's bigger than 4:3. I'd guess by about 10 to 15%, maybe more. It fills more of the 19:9 frame, but it alters framing and is somewhat disconcerting to watch.

I’m still not over people calling things they’ve never seen nostalgic. Or calling anything nostalgic when they mean old.

I worked for a "nostalgia" channel for 6 years and "old" was definitely on the verboten list. So was nostalgia, for that matter.

I know that Catchy Comedy is branded more on humor than 'nostalgia', but it still bothers me that they are adding 'Hot In Cleveland' to their schedule. It's about 15 years more recent than anything else they air (the final season of 'Full House'?)

getTV did the same thing w/ HOT IN CLEVELAND when I worked there. Our excuse was that Betty White and Valerie Bertinelli were classic TV icons.

They are! And it's not like Catchy would ever be able to acquire 'The Golden Girls', and it does make a nice binge with 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' (which returns to their daily schedule after being on once a week on Saturdays). I know that every show doesn't have to be for me to watch.

Oh, I know. I enjoyed the series, too. It's just a part of my weird DNA that I try to not rewatch more recent stuff in quantity, when there are so many older shows that I have never seen, or haven't watched the series in a while.

I’m excited - love The George Lopez show. And I like when they rotate shows. Some shows they don’t show all the episodes and it gets old really quickly.

Glad to hear you’re excited. I wish channels like Cozi (and others) would ease up on the binge-style schedules. Three or four hours of the same show every day burns it out for viewers much faster than an episode or two.

GreatTV in the UK has gotten away from its classic TV focus as well. Still a lot of '80s TV and a few UK shows from the '70s (but the same three shows over and over). Now they're filling prime time with movies, which is silly because they also have GreatMovies channel. It's sad.

Interesting. I see that Sony (which owns a ton of classic TV properties) sold the channel in 2021. I wonder if this evolution coincided with that, or if it's just part of the ever-shifting definition of "nostalgia."

A good linear schedule should be designed to keep people watching, to flow from one day part to the next. The Cozi schedule just feels like one note repeated all day long.

I remember when Cozi first started almost all the shows were Pre-90s. George Lopez Show has been obscure recently so I'm glad it's back but it's sad that if today's short attention spans go back 25 years, it kicks out 50 years ago. Little House is available elsewhere but that's not the point.
